Burning pain in thighs and legs

My husband has intense burning pain in his shins and thighs and a little lower back pain.  Different positions do not help.  He takes hydromorphone with helps a little.  He has had xrays, MRI, seen two neurosurgeons, one vascular doctor, his family physician several times, consulted a chiropractor and seen an acupunturist, and has had one cortisone injection in his spine (didn't help).  The doctors say it's not his back (it looks good) and he has good circulation ( he had heart bypass surgery 5 months ago).  They think it might be diabetic neuropathy (type 2 Diabetic) but it came on extremely suddenly without any other symptoms like foot numbness and tingling.  Does this seem possible?

Thank you so much, Sandee, for your response.  We are going to see a neurologist who will hopefully do that nerve conduction study.  I take it that test will tell me if he hasdiabetic neuropathy (which I think is a misdiagnosis).  The hydromorphone does hot help that much, and I was told Neurontin may help him if it's a nerve problem.  He is willing to try it.

Since this started with his back and two days later the burning in his legs started, I do not think it is diabetic neuropathy which seems to start in the feet with tingling and numbness and worsen over time.  This came on so suddenly.

I am having a problem kind of like your husbands, burning when I take pain meds from the knee down, I don't know what to do as I have depended on pain pills for chronic pain. I also have had 3 heart surgerys and don't know what to do, my doctor doesn't know or doesn't seem to care. Good luck and God Bless

I can't say if it is possible as I am not a doctor but I would definitely ask for a nerve conduction study to be done. If  does have any nerve damage it will show up on this test.
The hydromorphone will not relieve the pain and burning if he does have nerve damage and he will need a separate medicine for that.
I hope he is doing better soon and you fine the cause of his symptoms. He has a supportive wife and this is important.Feel free to ask any questions you have and we will do our best to answer them:)
