DOSES:

tramadol 50-100mg every 4 hours
co-codamol 30/500 - every 4 hours - no more than 8 in 24 hours

theses are starting doses for tramadol, you will only  be prescribed these if other pain killers have not worked.

always go on the advice of your medical practioner.

Because of severe back pain, I was on Pregabalin (150mg twice a day), Arcoxia (90mg once a day), and Co-codamol (30/500)... The pain relief from it wasn't good enough! So since yesterday, my GP replaced the Co-codamol with Tramadol (50mg) and Paracetamol (500mg) to take regularly (at least 3 times a day, more if needed) and so far the pain seems slightly better (not great but better!).
Above is just my own experience and not a medical advice for anyone to follow! Please talk to your doctor or Pharmacist first.

Thanks

Sorry for the previous double post, I'm a newbie to this site. Regarding, tramadol, co-codamol and naproxen, I have a box of all 3 in front of me now. The naproxen are known to cause ulcers, internal bleeding of the stomach etc so your G.P should also have prescribed you a gastro-resistant capsule alongside the naproxen, something like Omeprazole to counteract any possible internal bleeds. I was prescribed Naproxen and Omaprazole last week for a smashed up ankle with major tissue damage. I had to stop taking both after waking up for the first 3 nights practically choking on vomit in the back of my throat/nasal passage. Only a small mouthful of vomit, nonetheless, that uncomfortable that the taste was still with me 6-8 hours later, after brushing my teeth at least 5 times. That was with a gastro-resistant capsule so I would advise speaking to your doctor A.S.A.P. just so you know, with drugs from pain relief to sleep-aids, I have the tolerance of a horse, so please, go steady.

Co-codamol is definetly available in England, as a prescription only drug. The most common form contains 500mg of paracetamol with 30mg of codeine. As someone has mentioned, Tramadol can cause seizures in people who are prone to, or have suffered from seizures in the past. I believe, if taking large amounts of tramadol recreationally, the seizure risk may be counter-acted with a small amount of diazepam or clonazepam in the U.S. However I would certainly not reccomend taking them in any way other than in accorsance with your doctor's instructions. Harm reduction should always be the first thing on your mind! Be safe.

joan,

I am on 600mg Tramadol and 150mg Co-Codamdol a day and have had no problems so far. My Dr prescribed me them together so i guess they are reasonably safe to take together.
although they can cause nausea and constipation so i would advise you take some sort of Anti-Sickness Tablet as well as something for constipation.

hope this can help anyone else with the same question.

hi

Co-codamol is paracetamol and codiene. Co proxamol is paracetamol and dextropropoxyphene. Co-proxamol is no longer prescribed in the UK  I can't quite remember why maybe something to do with suicides and it being not very effective . It is also called Davrocet/Davron.

I believe they can be taken together.

What is the difference between co-codamol and co-proxomal? Both are from the UK I believe?

I'm an exiled Brit living in Seattle but when my mum has visited me here she has had both those meds for her battle with spondiolythesis and scolosis.
She also has a much stronger med as well Dilaudid I think?.

I have tried both c-cod and co-prox and found them to be not that strong at all If I remember correctly.

i take 200mg of tramadol a day and 90mg of codeine a day and i would'nt recommend that anyone else takes them together as when you try to stop taking them it is so terrible, my heads all over the place, i keep getting very confused and disorientated and have severe panic attacks when im in large crowds of people, even in town.
PLEASE be VERY careful with what u take, im only 27 and its ruined my life already. Oh and the mood swings are disturbing and you cant control them once you flip.

Take care and be safe and careful

DOCTOR PHILLIPS SAYS:-

Yes you can take them together, however its not advice I would usually give, tramadol 50mg tablet x2 = 100mg and cocodamol 30/500mg can be taken together, however, you may feel sick in taking them together, Tramdol 50mg tablets are powerful, so is the max strength cocodamol if you are going to take them together it is advisable to take an anti-sickness tablet first!!

I have patients taking both, however they are patients with cancer and dying, I would tell you take both of these drugs together with caution, and ask your GP to give you anti sickness tablet like Metroclopramide 10mg.

I hope this answers your question!!

Best Wsishes

tramadol and co-codamol can be taken together. tramadol is a morphine salt based drug which acts on the brains pain receptor. co-codamol comes in different strengths, all with 500mg of paracetamol per tablet. some with 8/15/30 or 60mg codiene. co-codamol acts upon the sensory nerves and motor neurons. when combined these 2 drugs provide very effective relief of moderate to severe pain. they are safe to take together and will not cause any severe harm as long as the dose and intervals are monitored. most common side-effects are nausea, tiredness and fatigue, also light headedness and 'spaced out' feeling.

hope this helps

I was once given tramadol and cocodamol together in hospital, and take them together regularly now.  However, the tramadol must NOT be the type which is combined with paracetamol, as then you would be overdosingon paracetamol.  What you don't say is what strengths you are talking about.  I take cocodamol 30mg two tablets, which is extremely strong.  There are cocodamol mixtures with less codeine phosphate in them.  Personally I take the strong version and add in one 50mg Tramadol.  This is an overdose for anyone who has not built up tolerance so I definitely do no recommend it.  I just wanted to tell you it can be done.  If you are taking the maximum strength cocodamol and it is not strong enough it is better for you to talk to your doctor first before adopting my regime.  I take very many painkillers, including morphine, and my body can accept quantities which may be lethal to others.  Be very careful with what you take.  It just takes one overdose and you will stop breathing and quickly die.  So yes, it can be done, but do not do it.  Not unless you are 100% sure you have the tolerance.

Is cocodamol a medication in the U.S.?  I've never heard of it and I think I remember someone from Europe mentioning this in a conversation about pain meds, so I'm thinking it's not an American thing.  Tramadol is a funny thing, and it causes some people to have seizures.  I'd be very careful taking it with anything until I had actually spoken to a pharmacist first.  They'll give you the best advice when it comes to meds.  I would trust a pharmacist's word before I'd trust even a doctor's on what it's safe to take with what.
