Cannot Fill Prescription Blocked

I went to my family doctor today and received my prescription for Xanax.

When I took it to a New pharmacy (my reg pharm was closed) to be filled the pharmacist told me
"I cannot fill your prescription it's being blocked. Any reason?" and that he would call me tomorrow.

I'm also on Methadone for pain management and I know in the narcotic monitoring system it will show that I have filled a narcotic earlier that day (xanax is a narcotic to) and it will give them an alert message.

I'm wondering what the potential reasons are for a perscription to be "blocked". I know in Ontario, Canada every pharmacy is required to use the Narcotic Monitoring System to prevent doctor shopping/multiple scripts. Has the system blocked me from obtaining future Xanax prescriptions?

I'm very worried, thanks.

Benzos are not narcotics; they are a different class of drugs.  Xanax and methadone shouldn't be taken together because the combination can cause respiratory distress.  Where do you get your methadone?  I'd be more worried about getting tested from your methadone provider.  If you have Xanax in your system, they may drop you and a CT detox of methadone will be pretty miserable.

It could be blocked, or it could be that the pharmacist isn't comfortable filling it. I would go to your regular pharmacy and see what they say. If they also say its blocked, then call your doctor. Xanax, isn't a narcotic, its a benzodiazapine. Its a controlled substance like a narcotic, just a different class of medication. Good luck to you.

Benzodiazepines are narcotics. I hope he doesn't call my doctor because my doctor doesn't know I'm on methadone.. lol.

Hi & sorry to read about the refill issue...

Not familiar with guidelines for Prescriptions in Canada. I live in USA and am required to use one pharmacy for "Controlled" medications - except in an emergency.
Sounds like the Pharmacist entered your prescription and it was blocked, probably temporarily, until he communicates with your MD. Am confident your script will be filled however you might need to have this done at your usual Pharmacy.
Sorry to be long- winded ~ Xanax is actually a Benzodiazepine (sp?) instead of a narcotic.
