Discharged from Pain Mgmt Dr

I was discharged from my PM Dr a few weeks ago because my UA came back and said it did  not show up the oxycontin. I told the doctor when he came into the room that I had not been taking it and it was not going to show up in my lab work so about 2 days later I got a letter in the mail saying that he was no longer going to be seeing me! I called them and they won't even refer me to another doctor, they wont give me my records, I don't know what to do. I have been seeing him because I had back surgery 2 years ago and still have terrible pain. I am on Percoset, Roboxin, Neurontin, Oxycontin, Lunesta. On top of the back surgery I now have a ruptured disc in my neck which is going to have to have surgery on here real soon. When I went to my neurologist today I told her what was going on and she said that he could not do that, that he had to refer me to another doctor and still had to fill my meds until I had one. I don't know if that is true or not was hoping someone on here would know, I'm in OK. I also have seizures, I'm just falling apart here, just don't know the procedure on what to do or how to go about doing it if I should call this doctor back about the referral or contact a lawyer or someone on the medical board? Please if you have an answers I would love to hear them, thank you.  Nita

note: sorry for the long comment.  I am just very concerned about other people in pain like myself who are suffering because of these cruel and unconstitutional "war on pain patient" procedures and laws too many complex hurdles and hoops to be admitted to a pain doctor.  These draconian laws and procedures also makes doctors afraid to continue pain meds because they can be lose their license to practice or worse.

I don't know about seeking a lawyer.  the legal process usually takes too long and you need to get healthy and relatively happy again before that. At the bottom of this comment page I left a like after having done a search for you: "disability protection and advocacy rights Oklahoma".  You may want to try other search terms.  In my state they have helped me before but it was not a medical matter.  But they also do that.  Each state has both federal, state and private organizations if you are on disability and perhaps even if not.

I'm very concerned that you are having seizures. If you have a "grandmal" seizure. it could be lethal.  I would recommend going to the emergency room at your local hospital and tell the er doctor about it and also the problems you are having in general(the ones you mentioned in you post for this thread) The Neurontin(generic:gabapentin) is rx'd for seizures. It is also used by pain doctors who are afraid to rx opioids(read paragraphs below about that)  You should tell your neurologist about this as soon as you can! Your neurologist has a responsibility to take care of seizure problems and should rx more neurontin or something else. Also, are you on a drug class not mentioned in your post?  I am talking about benzodiazpines, for example some are ativan(lorezapam), klonopin(clonazepam), xanax(alprozolam), valium( diazepam), and others. I AM NOT BEING CRITICAL, YOU HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO BE ON "BENZOS".  If you have recently stopped cold any of these(and others i have not mentioned)benzodiazepine drugs that may very well be causing your seizures. And again, if you are having seizures you need to get to a hospital!!
It is one thing to suffer from pain med withdrawal but benzo withdrawal can kill you!

War on pain patients, that is the problem my friend.  The authorities are ignorant, cruel and doing much more harm than good.  Why should pain patients(and prescribing physicians even more so) have criminal arrest hanging over the heads like drug pushers? or addicts?  I mean its real easy to figure out who your patients who have addictive personalities without blood or urine tests because an addict with a months supply of opioids or opiates will be back in the doctors office within days. begging for more pain drugs to get high on.  then the doctors office just say no and send them to rehab.

It is a stupid and cruel "broad brush" drug laws approach that penalizes pain patients.  Really it is not just stupid but it is the same diabolical approach for more non violent "criminals" to be a market(more prisoners) for the prison and rehab industry$$$.  What we all need to do is to call our politicians and tell them that this "war on drugs" getting its tentacles inside the doctor/patient relationship is unconstitutional and cruel.  However I would do this through an organization because if we give them our names we might have the feds crashing down our doors.

Why should legitimate pain patients like us have to suffer like the drug addict.  At least the addict knows where to find a street or internet dealer, but most of us pain patients do not even know where to start in the black market on the street or on the web.  And if we do get a dealer on the street or one of these phony doctor/pharmacy websites we have to pay ten times the price for a pain med than from a pharmacy. And more often than not these internet "no rx" pharmacies are scams that give you fake pain or anxiety meds.

In the mid 2000's it was no problem for a family doctor to prescribe an opioid or an opiate and that was a good thing.  You did not have to have blood or urine tests, no wait for a money grubbing pain specialist, deal with pharmacy fears because then pharmacies were not having these cruel and unconstitutional war on pain drugs laws to fear.vicodin withdrawal   Now even pain doctors are afraid of having their licenses revoked or even be arrested and thrown in prison.

I suffer from pain too, and on several occassions i had to go through hell before finding another doctor or my family doctor was good and courageous enough to rx the meds until i found a better pain doctor.

I hope and pray that you will once again be put on your vital pain medication. it really does make our quality of life better.  I think their is a personal message function on this website. If you want, send me a personal message, and i will try to read it and try to answer as soon as i can.

don't give up, sooner or later things will get better

yep.....no lawyer. But i would be very careful what i write or say and who i say it to because with these meds those words will go on your record and follow you everywhere. The drs. and even pharmacists and the insurance folks are all very very careful nowadays because the feds  are watching everyone who has anything to do with our pain meds! And more changes are coming and they are not good for the real chronic pain people----like me---who use oxys properly.  everybody be very careful.

Your medical records are your own. Write a letter and request them.

Don't bother with a lawyer. A doctor can add or drop a patient as he wishes. What your doctor has done is unethical, not illegal.

By all means, write the medical board, and tell everyone you know about his behavior.

Ask your PCP to write your meds.
