This is about my significant other. His "Patient Care Coordinator", the person who he's been calling for help, questions, and prescription pain pill refills, told me once that the doctor could not write a hydrocodone prescription on Friday that was due to be filled on Sunday, and that he or I must call back on Sunday and request the refill from the emergency on call physician. I did, and the physician said no they no longer write prescriptions over the phone and couldn't advise me. This was Sunday before Labor day, so the doctor wouldn't be there til Tues. I took him to the ED to get a short supply of pain pills. More recently, he had another surgery and was given an increased dose of Hydrocodone, then switched to tramadol without notice from the doctors. It wasn't helping so we went to visit the doctor at their urgent care hours. It was an uncomfortable meeting where the PA basically accused him of doctor shopping after looking at his list of ED visits. When I tried to explain the mistake made by the Patient Care Coordinator which caused one of those visits, the doctor interrupted and said it was irrelevant, and pretty much yelled at me then slammed the door. Rather than weaning him off gradually, they completely stopped prescribing any narcotics and offered no solutions other than to take Tylenol or go to the ED. What can I do about this mistake? Are there any legal protections?
