Feel like I just got slapped in the face

I am so mad right now I don't know if I should scream or hit someone. As you guys know I was suppose to see the pain dr on Monday but had to cancel cause I wasn't able to go to the shrink last week. Well I just got a phone call from the pain drs office and they left a message saying "we have you done for a procure(sp) on may 20th we need to to call and comfirm this" I heard it and thought what? I didn't make a appt for anything until June 11th. So I called and the nurse said that the dr I saw made me a appt with another dr in the office to get a nerve block done WHAT WHAT????? I told him I don't want a nerve block when I saw hiim. She said well it says here since the nerve meds he gave wanted you to try wasn't working he wanted to do a nerve block, those meds made me very angry and mad at the world. Anyway I said is that the only meds he is going to try on me? she said well from the way I take it yes. WHAT? You are freaking kidding me right? And the best part I told her I have a appt with him on June 11th she said well that is stranage cause he is going on vacation for 6 WEEKS and the appt is to see another dr that won't even touch your meds or for that matter give you any new ones?????? She said well what do you want me to do cancel this appt too? I said I don't know but the more I think about it yes but I didnt' tell her that. She said she will right down that I don't want the nerve block and then talk to him when he comes in on tuesday cause that will be the next time he is in, whatever cause I had a appt with him on monday that I had to cancel. What now guys? Do I try to stick with this dr or should I try another dr? I don't know what to do. Should I just try to see a good nerve dr? Or will he push the nerve block on me too? All I want is to treat the pain so I can get on with my life not needles in the nerve, that scares the crap out of me, as painful as it is now I can't even think about the pain it would be if a needle was put into it.Grr I am so lost again.

Hi Jamie,

I did thank you. :)  Not so tired today, just haven't been sleeoping really well lately. On of the fun things when you have pain AND when you are getting a LITTLE older. LOL

I think that is an excellent idea that you're going to do. I'll be anxiously awaiting what you are able to get accomplished. You know you might ask him what type of reputation that your friends Dr. has in the medical community. You might be able to find out whether he is one that just gives out meds to ANYONE or REALLY treats the pain and takes care of the patients.

Looking forward to hearing how it all goes. :) ....Sherry

I hope you was able to get some sleep sherry lol I think I will call my family dr and see if she knows of a another pain specialist that I can go to. If not then a good nerve dr. I don't want to be labeled. I know that alot of drs do give out meds without you having to go to a pain dr. I don't think it is a law in Ohio that you have to go to a pain dr for your meds. But again I have not really looked into it either.
Thanks
Jamie

Good Evening Jamie,

I wanted to comment on what you said about your friends Dr. that she goes to for her meds. On thing you might be cautious about is if your state requires that PM Clinics hand out the meds sooner of later her Dr.might be shut down and your right you caould be in a mess as a drug seeker if you were connected to this Dr.

All I'm saying is just check and see whether ANY Dr. is allowed to prescribe narcotics or ONLY the PM Clinics. (I just don't want you to have any more major problems than you already have going for you now!!)  :)

Just wanted you to think about that :)  Have a good nights sleep...Sherry

Thanks sandee, I have been looking online for another pain dr. I really wish I could find one that would get me in soon and care about me and not make my choices for me without even asking. I think that is what really made me mad he did it on his own AFTER i told him I really didn't want to do nerve blocks. I have been to enough drs I thought for sure this one would be my last but I guess not. Also one of my friends deal with everyday pain like me and she wants me to go to her family dr. I guess that is where she gets her meds but I am to scared to do that cause I don't want to look like a drug seeker. That is all I need to be flagged. I guess her PCP told her not to go to a pain dr to just get her meds from her. But I have been to so many drs cause of this problem I don't want to look like I am dr shopping. That is a big problem against me, and I don't lie to anyone I tell the drs how many I have been to and what all they have done and of course most drs say the other ones didn't do enough so I don't know.
Thanks again,
Jamie

The way things are now with the DEA coming down on all these doctors, your probably going to have to go to a PM doctor for your medications. One of my previous doctors refused to do nerve blocks too. He said they actually do more harm than good and thought they were a waste of time and money and do harm.
Now some people get alot of relief from them but I am not one of them. They caused me more pain than I had to begin with.

I will start asking around. My PCP is the one who referred me to this pain dr cause I found them on the internet and my PCP office has sent other people to them. I know there isn't one in the town I live in so I will have to go outside of town. I just dont' know if it would be worth it to find another one or stick with this one or find a nerve dr. My problem is I have had a nerve dr tell me not to do nerve blocks and he is the one that told me only pain meds would help my pain. So if I go to another nerve dr is heshe going to push nerve blocks on me too? I have no clue but don't want that. I don't see the other nerve dr cause he said he can't do long term pain meds treatment for anyone.
Thanks
Jamie

Hi Jamie,
I know your frustrated! I would be too. You hire the doctors who manage your health and it is your right to decide what treatments you want or do not want. I suggest trying to get an appointment with a new PM doctor. I know it has taken you awhile to get this one but at this point the treatment you have received it by far less than perfect. How do they make an appointment for a block when they have not even seen you yet? That is not right! You deserve the best and this is apparently not the best.
Have you asked your PCP for a referral or did she refer you to this one?
If she did then explain the situation and that your just not comfortable putting your medical care in their hands and see if she can refer you to a new one.
If not then have you tried the local hospitial referral lines. They usually have great referrals.
I have even asked my pharmacist once about any good PM doctors he is aware of and this is how I found one of the best PM doctors I have had thus far.
I will help any way I can there are sites such as the pain foundations that have referral list too.

When I talked to the nurse I told her the reason I don't want it is because it scares me and I have heard nothing but bad things about them and with my pain being in my face if the nerve block does make it worse then I am in big trouble. I really don't and can't risk being in even more pain then I am. It will effect my eating and sleeping and talkiing and I can't do that. I have 2 kids to worry about and if the pain is worse then it is now I really can't handle that.
Thanks alot
Jamie

Hi!  I just wanted to clarify my reply to you.  I do understand you object to the injections and that you are in a lot of pain.  I also understand that this doctor seems to be jerking you around a little.

What Sherry said about a sit down with the doctor explaining your objection is really good advice.  My concern is your new doctor won't take your pain seriously if you turn down the injection without explaining your reasons.  And that is something you really don't need.

As I said, my doctor will drop anyone who won't take the injections.  She has stated to me that anyone who doesn't want the injections must not be in that much pain.  In other words, a pill seeker.

I know that is absolutely not your case. But I do know you don't want the doctor thinking that.

Good luck and I hope you get some relief soon.

Jamie,

I'm so sorry that you have to endure this. You can always go in and sit down and TRY to explain how you feel about the block and how frightened you are to have it done. It might be worth a try.

Sending you a Hug....Sherry

P.S. I sent you a 2nd PM.

If you really don't want the block you shouldn't get it.

My personal experience with them has been good.My neck injections and abdomen injections make life somewhat more bearable.  They don't completely kill the pain but any relief is welcome.

I have heard so many bad things about the blocks and don't want nothing to do with them.

ponycar4me:
My father inlaw goes to the VA hosptial all the time for his health problems even if they are not army realted they still treat him. They give him pain meds for his back and gets his teeth done and everything could you check into that?

I meant to add that you should ONLY obtain your meds thru your Dr.

Anything else IS NOT SAFE!!!!

I'm sorry for your situation also.

I agree with Saramjt why don't you go to the VA. You should have some VA benefits don't you? How long were you in the service? How long have you been out?

I'm so sorry for your situation.  You mentioned the marines.  Is there any chance that the VA could help you?  I think we treat our criminals better than we treat our vets.  Just my honest opinion.

To Jamlws:  I agree with Sherry.  You need a different doctor.  This one doesn't seem to have  a grasp on real life.  And a note about the block.  If I refuse any injections from my pain doc, she'll drop me.  I take them whether I like it or not.

HI Jamie,

Boy, you can't seem to get ANY kind of a break can you!! Do you have any other Dr. options? Can you call your PCP ( I know she may not want to treat you and DOESN'T want to give any more meds) BUT can you tell her what he did and wants to do and ask her for a referal to another PM Dr.? If she can't can she refer you to another PCP that CAN refer you to someone new.

Jamie, I just sent you a PM.

Take care my dear....Sherry
