I was on Fentanyl patches for 13 years. It had terrible effects on my mental and emotional functionality, especially after a number of years. I finally realized the correlation and stopped it, against my doctor's recommendation. Now, I feel much better mentally and emotionally, which makes a huge difference. There are other long-acting medications which are much better for your dementia. Please discuss this with your physician. As far as the patches remaining secure, they do not withstand water. At all. Not perspiration nor shower runoff. Bathing will make them float away. It is not recommended one use alcohol prior to placement. Tegraderm caused a horrible weeping rash around and beneath the patches, as did any type of tape after a day or so. I put them any and everywhere on my body, pulling off more skin than I care to remember. The upper hip was the most resilient, but again, after so many years, I could no longer ignore how I felt mentally. I tried every single means to secure mine, yet was never successful. I wish you the best!

Before you get in bath or shower. .if your patch is on ur arm..talk seran wrap and wrap it around your arm over the patch and tape edges so water won't seep in. If it is elsewhere. .put seran wrap over patch and tape around edges. To make sure your patch sticks better clean area with an alcohol wipe before applying. .wait for it to dry..then apply..you can also buy one of those big waterproof bandaids and place it over patch..but usually the don't stay on long.  So last thing u cud do is once placed.get medical tape and place on edges of patch and one in middle to secure it then use the seran(I don't think thats how it's spelled lol) wrap technique when showering. Hope that helps!
