For the FIRST time I'm Frightened!!

Hi Everyone,

I had something happen yesterday (actually early yesterday, Monday, morning at about 2:00am) and it REALLY scared me to death.  SOMEHOW, my hip went out and I COULDN"T get it to MOVE at all and the pain was EVEN more severe than it was a couple of weeks ago when I posted about it.  I COULDN'T put ANY weight at all on my left leg.  I really didin't think it would EVER go back in.  I layed down this morning and rested and when I got up it had gone back in (this was around noon yesterday) BUT for the VERY first time I can FEEL the instability in it with EVERY step I take. It's NOT going out with each step BUT I can FEEL it "moving around" inside my body.  I KNOW that at any moment I can TURN  the wrong way OR step the wrong way  or get up the wrong way and it will be out  - POSSIBLY until my surgery. Then the question would be what damage would it be doing to my hip bone!! IF it breaks it in ANYWAY or causes tiny fragments to be shaved off, will they be able to reattach a NEW cup in there!!  I KNOW that the muscle's are atrophied, though I don't know to what extent.  I'm concerned whether or not there will  be too little an amount of hip bone for them to be able to get a GOOD and STRONG enough bond with the bone for the cup to be secure.  IF that's the case what can be done?  For the VERY first time it's REALLY starting to scare me.  Suddenly 3 weeks (until my surgery) seems to be an ETERNITY!!!

Understand, I have COMPLETE Trust and CONFIDENCE in my New Surgeon as he is very prominent is in Sports Medicine here in the Phoenix area, therefore he has SEEN and performed just about EVERY conceivable type of surgery that there is.  He has worked with the our Pro teams as well as our University teams so I KNOW that he will be able to FIX everything it's just that the emotions have REALLY begun to take over for some unknown reason!!

I'm REALLY sorry for letting this fear just take over today like it has!!!   It ACTUALLY started last night and has proceeded to get worse!!  I HATE the way that your mind can do this type of thing to a person. "ve ALWAYS prided myself on my CONTROL but for SOME unknown reason it's evaporated where this surgery is concerned!!

Thank you all for being here and listening!!  This seems sort of strange as I don't normally allow my fear to take over BUT as I said it has Last Night and TODAY!!!

A VERY shaky, Mama Sherry

I love you all and I'm VERY grateful for ALL of your help!!!............Sherry

Our Poor Sherry,

I am so sorry to learn of your new symptoms. My heart goes out to you. You have every right to be concerned and frightened.

I hope that you called your surgeon as we discussed earlier. My concern is that it may be too dangerous to continue to ambulate and bear weight on that hip. I think you told me you have a walker. It's time to get it out from the foot of your bed and USE IT!!

Please don't take the chance that you will further injure this poorly repaired hip joint. Surgery is coming up quickly. We do not want you to be in even worse condition when you undergo this new repair. Or worse yet do something that will cause the new repair to be less successful or more difficult.

Now Sherry, our dear friend, it is time for YOU to heed our advice and take care of that hip. Stay off from it and don't endanger yourself. If you don't we'll all be forced to come to AZ and make sure that you follow orders. :)

We care about you dear-heart and want you have less pain and a successful surgery. We want you to be running by Christmas!.... Chasing Santa through the snow.....well maybe the Malls.  :)   :)

Blessings and take care of yourself!!

I'm happy that you went and had an x-ray taken today. I'm glad that you're getting this surgery in three weeks. It really sounds like it will help you a lot.

Please rest. You are so helpful, encouraging, and kind to others here--and I know that sometimes people who care so much about others don't rest enough:) My mom is like that. She does so much for everyone, but doesn't do too much for herself.

Hugs,

Flower

Oh Shoot!!  Jaded,  I was HOPING that would work!!! :)

OK I promise you that I WILL take it easy.  Let's face it I'm REALLY  looking forward to this surgery MORE than to ANY OTHER surgery I've EVER had!!!

It's 3 weeks from today and I'm VERY excited to know that 3 weeks from today the surgery will either BE over or at least ALMOST over!!  Then it will be such a SMOOTHER road ahead from that point on!!!

Of course I will STILL have severe DDD and ALL of the Arthritis issues and I'll eventually be facing replacing my Right hip and both knees BUT not in the immediate future!!  SO for awhile with the surgery taking care of the hip and the RFA's that I had in my back (and will have again when I need them) my pain will HOPEFULLY be greatly reduced thanks to the medication that my PM Doctor has me on.

I keep looking down the road to the Holidays and how much BETTER I will feel AFTER all of this is over!!

I love you all.........Mama Sherry

Ok, Mama Sherry, I'll have to resort to tougher love and say I won't come out there until you rest and relax your hip!  Hopefully that will be soon for both of us.
I'm glad that you had the x-ray and at least know what's going on in there.  It sounds very painful and I'm sorry you've been going through this for so long.  I can't wait until you get that hip done and start feeling better.  It sounds like just getting those pins put right will make a big difference.
I'm still praying for you and wishing you all the relief from the pain possible.  I'm also sending you lots of love.

Thank you guys - I just got back from having another X-ray and FORTUNATELY nothing has changed from the other's. The Hip has been held in by the muscles and my Surgeon feels that I should be alright for the next 3 weeks. Even though it is moving around the muscle is still seemingly able to hold it in place.  The pins HAVE changed position AGAIN!!! They are what has caused SOOO much pain the past few days.  They must be cutting through the muscle in a new place. They DON'T have to move much for them to hurt like.... (you know what) each time that they move on me.  I've been going through this EVER since my hip was put in back in 2007.  He told me the EXACT same thing that ALL of my Friends (YOU ALL on MH) have been telling me and that is to rest and to take it easy.  It just goes to prove that we DON'T necessarily need a Doctor on this Forum as you ALL are VERY well versed in COMMON SENSE and that's EXACTLY what is needed in this set of Circumstances!!

Redhotz - Thank you so VERY much for giving such GOOD suggestions.  They were exactly right on!!!

Mellie4 - Honey, you have SOOO much pain yourself right now - I REALLY Thank you for taking the time to WORRY about me!!! You are ALWAYS so thoughtful and kind and caring on here to EVERYONE!!

RunningMom - I REALLY appreciate your kind words and thoughts!!  You always say the right thing whenever you post.  Aalways thoughtful and kind NO matter what!!!

NOW JADED - IF that's what it takes to get you OUT here to AZ then I WON'T do Anything I'm supposed to and MAKE you come out here to FORCE me to do it!!!!  LOL
I have to figure SOMETHING out to get you all out here!!!  :)

Thank you EVERYONE for ALL that you have been doing for me since I first came on MH. You have ALL been so kind and caring and it MEANS so VERY much to me!!!

I love you ALL..........Mama Sherry

I'm so sorry I missed this until now!  I hope that you are feeling better!  I started praying the minute I read your post and I will keep it up!  I really hope you can the surgeon soon.  Maybe even the PM or a PCP.  Maybe there's some sort of brace you can use until the surgery?
Please get lots of rest!!!  You should also maybe take an anti-inflammatory and/or use ice to calm down the inflammation.  I'm serious about the rest, though.  Don't make me come over there!
We all love you and want you to be feeling better!!

ªjOh, Mama Sherry, I don't even know what to say.   Have they given you any suggestions while you wait for your surgery?  Is there any way you can have your your surgery done sooner?

It sounds like the hip is unstable more from muscle issue, and you say that you know that the muscles are atrophied. If it were my hip, I'd be letting my surgeon know what is going on and also asking what movements NOT to be making. IF it should make you fall and it fractures they will most likely be able to put in the new hip. Hips don't have little tiny pieces, they fracture in one of several places, depending on the reason for the fracture. The surgeon will clean up the socket prior to putting in your new hip. I know some of the things you should NOT do are crossing your legs, sitting and bending at the hip, as they put stress on the hip AND you already know the muscles which hold your hip in place are not up to par. Really, touch base with the Ortho MD.

Flower - Thank you so much for your Prayers!! That means SO much to me!! That's VERY thoughtful of you.

Sara - my Dear I can see that you and Jaybay and Flower are going to gang up on me so I WILL give My Surgeon a call and see what he says. Thank you for WORRYING about me when YOU are going through so much yourself right now!!!  Always thinking of others!!  What a Dear Friend you are!!!

Jaybay - Even with this you STILL can make me LAUGH!!!  Thank you my Dear Jaybay!!  I bet your Mom was a WONDERFUL Lady!!!  I'm VERY honored to be included in  the "Tough Old Broads" Category along with You and Your Mom!!! That's Quite an HONOR!! Thank you my Dear Friend!!

I PROMISE ALL of you that I will call my Doctor tomorrow and let him know what has been happening this past month with the incident 3 weeks ago also!!  I was hoping to hold out until Friday as I have an appointment with the PCP to do the Preliminary testing that has to be done on my heart and everything.  ALWAYS have to do that BEFORE they will operate when you have Stents!!  Oh well, at least you always know that you are in GOOD health!!  Just HURT like Crazy!!

Thank you ALL so VERY much.  I'm sending you ALL a GROUP ((((HUG!!)))) and Much Love..........Mama Sherry

Well cr*p on toast!  I hope you haven't added tendon or ligament injury on top of everything else.  Sara is absolutely right - you need to call your doctor.  Might even need a quick x-ray just to make sure something hasn't drastically changed in there, but at least you'll know one way or the other.

You sound so much like my mother (God rest her soul) with the need to be in control.  I honestly laughed when I read that because those words came right out of my mother's mouth more times than I can count!  :-D  I've got a hefty dose of it myself, and understand the feeling exactly.  Nobody likes that "helpless" feeling - much less tough old broads like us!  So take back some of that control and call your doctor.  That "mind over matter" thing just isn't going to work this time, right?!

Oh my Goodness Sherry!  Have you talked to your doctor?  You should, you know that.  But I'm sure there are ways that your hip can be taken care of.   Please call and get  some more pain medication. Sounds like you need it!

I am so sorry this is happening to you.  So unfair.  You are always there for everyone and give so much of yourself.  It doesn't seem fair that you have to suffer like this.  Please know you'll be in my prayers.

Hi. I'm so sorry that you're having this problem. Can you make a call to your surgeon just to let him know what is going on with your hip? Did the doctors warn you that this could happen before your surgery date? I'm sure that it's scary to have your hip go out like that.

It's so hard to deal with increased pain, isn't it...
I'm praying for you.

Hugs,

Flower

Thank you for the kind words and the information!!  I'll look forward to getting that link!!

It's unfortunate how many of the "elder" generation are so afraid of the "stigma" that taking Pain Medication has on them.  I hurts me to think how MUCH more comfortable your Grandmother would have been if she had listened to you and the rest of your Famliy!! I"m SOglad that she breezed through this and I'm sure is "Jumping and Dancing" her way through each day now!!!

With this being my third implant I'm not concerned in any way about the Post-Surgical recovery part of it. :)  Thank heavens I know what to expect!!  It will make it much easier that way!!

Thank you again for the kind words.......Sherry

Aww,.. I am so sorry your having to go thru this! I am running late but will post more later. I looked up some info on attaching the hip to the cup with bone fragments missing and it seems there is not a problem due to the fact that they can fuse it.
I will send you the link I read it is detailed when I return.
The medical advancements are astounding these days I would think they could do just about anything they set their minds to:)
I am seriously sad that your hurting. Your such a great woman who is so compassionate and helps so many here.
My Grandmother had a total hip replacement a couple years ago and she did wonderfully. She is the type you cant hold down so she was up and going in no time. She took very few pain medications too as she seen them as a weakness no matter how many times we told her differently.
I know your Surgery is not too far off so hang in there and know we all her are praying for you and are here for you every step of the way:)
