Hi c_girl80,
I am sorry you are in so much pain. I am glad you found us at the Pain Management Community of MedHelp.
If you have bursitis that can be very painful but there is treatment for it. I have had steroid injections with great relief. In fact my bursitis will completely subside for several years before I require another injection. So that will ease some of your pain.
I also agree that you should have an MRI if you are having back symptoms. An x-ray is not a very valuable diagnostic tool for spine issues.
The most concerning statement made in your post is that you feel your physician is not listening to you. That is never acceptable. Your PCP should be some one that not only listens to your concerns but addresses them also. Remember our PCP work for us. We hire them to provide a service, if they are not providing us the service that we are paying them to do than we should look for a PCP that will meet our needs. And that has nothing to do with your age. They take our money if we are 18 or 88. So if you are not satisfied with your physician please find a new one.
Best of luck to you. I am hoping you will find some answers soon. Please let us know how you are doing. I will look forward to your updates. Take Care, Tuck
Mollyrae is correct you need to try all alternatives first and the doctor is most likely doing this as most do.
My PM doctor says there is alot of pain that can not be seen with all the test they order also have you had a nerve conduction study done? This is one way of finding pain that does not show on the other test.
I know it is frustrating but hang in there and if your doc isn't helping you or giving you options find another one. You hired him and he works for you so if he isn't what you think you need at this point find one that will offer you options on your treatment.
Hello c_girl80:
Welcome to the pain forum. Yes, it is because of your age that the Doctor doesn't want to start you on a narcotic or take you seriously. Narcotics lead to dependancy and that is a tough road to be on. I would imagine that your Doctor is trying anything possible other than a narcotic to help you and he is wise. I'm not saying that you don't need anything stronger....you most likely do, but try any alternative before you take drugs that will make you dependant.
You might want to try a Lidocaine patch, they can be very effective in calming the neck pain. Another test you might consider if your pain continues is an MRI. This test will show problems that an x-ray can't. You might want to discuss this with your Doctor. If all else fails, find a new Doctor completely. Sometimes a fresh set of eyes can find things the other Doctor missed. Please take care and good luck in your journey.
