Just a helpful hint

I have had great nerve pain since I was in the 8th grade let see so that is 26 years ago. (man I feel old) anyway, i was told it was tendinitis, even though I could see this huge lump. no heat ICE ICE ICE. and PT but I couldn't deal with the pain in my foot, i used to take 800mg of motrin every 5 hours (they told me if needed to increase it so i did not knowing what could have happened.) Finally about 5 years ago I got my answer I was diagnosed with a rare disease called NEUROFIBROMATOSIS basically they are tumors and they usually grow on your nerves (physically and mentally)  I have been on many pain meds and can't take them bad side effects. now here is what I have had done and what I do to help
First of all i take a very warm bath (or I am foturnate to have a special husband that gave up buying an outdoor furnance to get me a hot tub) so i soak in both and that helps so much with nerve pain.
another thing that I found that was cheap and small for like hands or feet that I use are HAND WARMERS. I was so desperate one day and i was at the hospital saying good bye to my dad before he passes away the only thing any one had on them for any type of heat was a hand warmer. I got a hold of DUCT TAPE and taped it into place it lasted 8 hours.
I also have a spinal nerve stimulator implanted, now this isn't for every one but man it helps.
so try heat, like a hot water bottle ( I can't use one of those because having something heavy on my foot like that kills my body with too much pain, a hot wash cloth doesn't last that long. so maybe a heat wrap or the hand warmers) and very warm soaks in the bath
good luck to all of you who suffer on a daily bases with pain and I thought I would share what helps with my pain and I really hope it helps someone

Thank you so much, yes the stimultor brings about 30-40% relief for me which was a lot o a scale of 1-10 my pain levels were over 100. and are down to 60-70. yes it does have ros and cons to it.
I do hope this will benefit at least one person. I forgot to mention that that the pain was so bad and I was so desperate, that i took a risk and had one of the nerves cut we did a "trial run" with a nerve block and that as the first time in 23 years I could jump. I was so happy that I was gong to have my nerve cut so I could jump on the bed with my kids or ride a bike or just go for a painless walk with them, i knew there was a chance of it not working but i was extremely hopeful and very positive since the trial one worked, well it failed me.
so if you are in that boat, please take in real careful consideration about having a nerve cut to prevent pain, i still have risk of cutting my foot and not knowing it, the top part is numb but the inside is not. I should have taken more time, but I was desperate.
good luck to you guys and I will be here on the board

Hello Michelle,

Welcome to the Pain Mangement Forum and thank you so much for posting your ideas and sharing your experiences.

I am hopeful that your information may benefit to some of our members. I have indeed tried all of what you have posted other than the spinal cord stimulator which is probably what provides you with the most releif. I am so happy that everything put together controls your pain.

Sounds like you also have a kind and loving husband. You are so fortunate. Mine also bought me the large jacuzzi. What a wonder gift for chronic pain.

I hope you will consider becoming active on our forum. We all learn from one another. Again thank you for sharing. I wish you continued good results with your pain management.

Peace,
~Tuck
