Just my Luck....!!!!....

Greetings to all,

Well just to add a little fun to my pain management situation, i.e. new doctor, trying new meds and dosage levels, etc... I just got into an auto accident on the freeway here a couple of hours ago!!!! Da*& it !!! Not my fault, was rear-ended as i stopped for the typical Austin IH 35 traffic jam and the people behind me didn't.... I was fourth in line at the front of a chain reaction 4 or 5 car collision...... by the the time it got to me the impact wasn't as bad as it could be, but
i can definitrly already feel it and I know from past experience that tomorrow will be much worse!!!! At least I had left enough room in front of me that I didn't hit them so I am certainly not at fault in any way, but that really does nothing to mitigate the incresed pain level in my already hurting lumbar and cervical fusions/herniations/bulging discs, not to mention the soft tissue strain that I already have and am certain will be much worse in the next couple of days...oh goody......Oh well, what do you do....I guess this is just another one of life's little tests for me!!!! I guess I should perhaps call my pm doc tomorrow and see if they can get me in sooner than my Jan. 2 follow up appt.. at which time we were to discuss dosage titration etc.... any thoughts or comments are welcome, hoping this finds all of you in at least an acceptable level of pain control and once again my motto must be repeated "Endeavor to Persevere"

Wopila.....mitakuye oyasin

Hi Mark,

Recovery is going great!!!  I am able to eat all of my normal foods now.  I was eating like a bird (literally) on the days leading up to the surgery as I am sure you know about how nasty gallbladder attacks can be.  And I know, I am doing it really BIG around the holidays, huh? LOL!  Actually, the surgery is much cheaper under my current insurance that ends Dec 31st so I was fighting tooth and nail to get scheduled this month for surgery.

You have quite the sense of humor.  I love it!  It is great when a post puts a smile on your face.  :)

That is great news that an officer was there to make the report, that way no one can get away with making up their own story of how the accident occurred to their insurance company.

I hope your appointment with the doctor goes well tomorrow.  I provided some more info on medications in the other thread you started that you might find helpful knowing about before your appointment tomorrow.

Don't let the lawyer stress you out, that's what they are paid for.  Thanks for keeping me in your prayers and I will add you to mines.  Talk with you soon.

femmy,

Recovering from gall bladder surgery, wow you really know how to have a good time, huh?? (lol)  My daughter recently had the same situation and had her 's removed so I am familiar with the issue....watch your fatty food intake as I'm sure you are already aware as it certainly makes it harder for your system to digest fatty foods ( all the really tasty ones, right??) I will keep you on my prayer list for what it's worth......I did get my new PM doc to work me in an appt. for tomorrow morning so hopefully we can make some progress with my med titration/changes or whatever they can do, geez it was already complicated enough without adding the accident on top of everything else now, oh well can't do anything but keep walking forward right??? I really appreciate your time and responses and will remember your work resumption and not think you are ignoring me, I appreciate the heads-up as sometimes people do just vanish and you wonder what ever happened to so-and-so.....did I say something I shouldn't have, or whatever...so duely noted.....enjoy your recovery time as much as you can and I look forward to future correspondence. Oh and in answer to your other question, yes there was an officer(s) there to clear the call and make a report and at  the suggestion of my uncle (an attorney) I have an appt. next week with an attorney to discuss my rights and options with regard to the whole sordid accident incidence oh boy doctors and lawyer appointments I really know how to party too, huh???  LOL.....take care of yourself and the little guy and we will talk at some point in the not-too-distant future......

Peace

Hi Mark,

You were definitely in the wrong place at the wrong time.  It certainly was not your fault.  And, I totally understand your reasoning for not wanting to cause trouble for the driver in back of you as he didn't cause the accident.  I remember the driver in front of me starting complaining and whining about this tiny scratch that my car made on his bumper when I was pushed into him by the Subaru.  The police officer that came to the accident scene told him to basically take a hike because he had multiple dents already in his bumper that wasn't caused by the accident and it was a "what's in it for me" move.  LOL!  So I completely forgot the order of who is covered under who's insurance when it is a multi car collision.  Out of fairness, the guy that started the whole crash should have to get everyone's cars fixed but that isn't how it works.  As I know there isn't much you can do to keep your car from moving forward even with the brakes depressed except ensure adequate distance between you and driver in front of you (which is what you did).

I am glad that your car isn't too beat up from the accident.  Not sure if you have accident forgiveness on your insurance or a vanishing deductible, but those two things could allow you to get your car fixed under your insurance without causing an increase in your premiums.  I would think that the driver behind you wouldn't get dinged too much on his insurance or maybe not all since he didn't technically cause the accident.  Did a police officer come out to the scene to document the accident?

You are such a kind person.  You are so right that it is harder these days to find geniunely good people out there.  I enjoy helping out others on MedHelp and providing insight into pain management so that others know more of what to expect as I sure appreciated the advice from others myself and I think it helped me get better care.

Now when Jan 9th comes and you don't see a reply from me until 5-6 days later, please know that I am not ignoring you.  I have a lot of extra time of my hands right now as I just had my gall bladder taken out last Thursday so I am short term disability until the 9th.  Once I go back to work, my posts will become more sporadic as I usually don't power up my computer on week nights after coming home from work because of all that has to be done before bed time (my five year old brings home "piles" of homework...they are so much tougher on the little ones these days than when I was in kindergarten lol!).  But I typically log in Friday night or Sat morning to catch up on what I missed.

Take it easy as I know you have a lot of soreness from the accident.  Try relaxing under a heating pad to ease the soreness a bit.  Looking forward to your updates.  And I hope you feel better soon.  God Bless.  :)

femmy,

Hey, thanks for the reply and what a horrible experience for you to endure while doing nothing wrong but being in the wrong place at the wrong time, it doesn't seem fair but you are obviously a very caring and compassionate human being as evidenced by your willingness to help this kid out even after all that, not to mention your responses and posts on this board....kudos to you for being a good human being!!!!! (seems as though there are fewer and fewer caring, unselfish people left in the world anymore) As for the insurance issue, the driver immediately behind me did have insurance but it wasn't really his fault so much either as he was hit from behind and then in turn hit me, so I really don't want to cause him any problems, but again it was certainly no fault of mine other than being in the wrong place at the wrong time...as I said I was at the front end of this 5 car collision but I had left enough room that I didn't get knocked into the car in front of me....(years of riding motorcycles teaches you not only to pay REALLY GOOD attention, but also to allow room for just such incidents as this) so I guess he has some liability in it as he should have left more room in between his vehicle and mine. I guess I will fill out all accident stuff and go from there, I am definitely feeling the increase in pain already as it was a fairly good lick...at least not too much damage to my vehicle though. I guess I will probably be calling my new pm doc and explaining everything to them tomorrow and go from there, I'm sure I'll be extra sore tomorrow.....such is life......thanks again for your reply, compassion and overall humanity...it kinda helps restore my faith in the goodness of humans.....thanks again and God Bless....mitakuye oyasin...

Peace

Hi Mark,

This is terrible news!!!  It is like deja vu of what happened to me 10 years ago.  I was also a victim of a rear end chain.  There were three cars (including me) waiting behind a bus that was stopped at one of the bus stops just outside of Starbucks Coffee in Boulder, Colo picking up passengers (was attending school at CU back then and was heading home from class to my apartment).  All of sudden, this subaru smashes into me and my car moved forward and smashed into the car in front of me.  That was really the start of my chronic pain woes.  The driver that did this to me apologized profusely and admitted he was checking out a chick on a bike!  Then he went on to say how ticked off his parents were going to be because this was the 3rd accident he had gotten into in the past 3 months!!!  I felt sorry for him because his car was completely totalled and I ended up driving him to work after the accident.  My car was literally killing me as his front bumper smashed my exhaust pipe in and the carbon monoxide was spilling into the car.  I finally got it fixed and spent $100,000 of insurance money going to chiropractic, massage therapy, and physical therapy over a three year period.  It was amazing how much it helped with my pain as I was going 3 times a week to all 3 places.  Once my benefited ended, I couldn't afford that much treatment and because of that, it wasn't as effective anymore.  I also received a measly $3000 settlement for my injuries.

Did the person that rear ended you have insurance?  I sure hope so.  If he has insurance, that is one good thing that can come from this...massages galore!!!  :)  Additionally, all of your medical copays for visits and prescriptions may be covered now too through the other person's auto insurance.

If you are really hurting from this accident, definitely give your doctor a call and I am sure they can get you in sooner or you could go to Urgent Care.  I am so sorry this happened to you given all of your current injuries.  Please keep us updated on how you are doing.
