Hi Again Coolio,

I cannot find anything that says it is addictive. I have a friend (RN) that takes it and she has not mentioned it either. It is not a narcotic. It works by slowing down impulses in the brain that cause seizures. Lyrica also affects chemicals in the brain that send pain signals across the nervous system.

Lyrica is used to control seizures and to treat fibromyalgia. It is also used to treat pain caused by nerve damage in people with diabetes (diabetic neuropathy) or herpes zoster (post-herpetic neuralgia).

Lyrica may also be used for other purposes . Avoid drinking alcohol. It can increase some of the side effects of Lyrica. Lyrica can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert. Cold or allergy medicine, narcotic pain medicine, sleeping pills, muscle relaxers, and medicine for seizures, depression or anxiety can add to sleepiness caused by Lyrica.

Side Effects include:

muscle pain, weakness, or tenderness (especially if you also have a fever and feel tired);

easy bruising or bleeding; or

swelling in your hands or feet, rapid weight gain.

dizziness or drowsiness, anxiety;

blurred vision;

loss of balance or coordination;

problems with memory or concentration;

dry mouth;

skin rash or itching;

constipation, stomach pain;

increased appetite; or

joint or muscle pain.

I hope this is helpful for you. Best of luck,
Tuck

Hi Coolio, It sounds like your physician is great. I have faith that he will help you find something non-narcotic that will help your pain. We all suffer with CP and the mind things that that does to us, now add the opiates and what to you think?

I fight "moodiness' and anger often. I'm sure I am not alone with my struggle. So keep up the good work. And keep us posted on how you are doing. There's a whole lot of caring going on here at the Pain Management Forum.

Best to you, Tuck.

Hi Coolio. I'm glad that you have pushed to achieve healthy living. Yeah, I guess you struck a nerve with me but I can't ever stay mad. I know the pills change a persons personality as they do mine. I can be very moody at times and I try really hard to correct that. You seem like a genuine person so with that I'll say good luck in the future and keep posting.

I had been told by my doctor that the Subutex could be used for 2 weeks to help with coming off of years of pain pills and that i should stay on after that for long term pm.

Though the Subutex does seem to work great for pain and can not be abused as you can not get a high feeling no matter how much you take , i still think that long term use is not the way to go.

Because i know i have a problem over doing the pain medication my doctor has given me many options for non-narcotic pain mangement. He has been awesome about all of this.

For now i think my best move is to get off of everything so that i can try to see what the real pain really is. I never really know because im always masking it with opiates.

Sorry i cant sleep and i might be going on a little to much.
