MRI Results

I have finally gotten the results back on my MRI. They are as follows:

There is some mild degenerative disc disease of the cervical spine suggesting a slight decrease in disc space water at the C2-3, C3-4, C4-5 and C5-6 levels.

The doctor thinks that this could be the reason I am having more frequent migrains and wants to schedule me for an injection of a steroid/numbing medication mixture in my neck.

Has anyone had this done and does it seem to help?

Thank you for the suggestion. I have dealt with migraines for years but it has only been recently that they have become so frequent. If the injection doesn't work I will try a DO. I am a little nervous about the injection but I am willing to try anything if it will help ease the pain of the headaches. I will add a new post after the injection to let everyone know how it goes. Hopefully, I will be able to post the good news that I am headache free.

My mom will be picking me up after the injection and driving me to her house since the doctor says I will drowsey afterwards from the anesthetic. My 2 year old son's babysitter, an aunt by marriage, will be taking care of him and me for the afternoon so I should have plenty of time to recover. I am really hoping that this will be the solution that I have been looking for.

Hello FeCielo,

Thank you for the update. I am glad that you have decided to have the injections and hopeful that your headaches will improve or better yet, disappear.

I don't know if I have told you this but some years ago I broke my neck in a softball accident. I have had bouts of severe headaches periodically since that time. At times they became so severe I would end up in ER. Five years ago I found a new PCP, a Doctor of Osteopathy. I had an appointment for another issue when I was in the midst of one of the horrible headaches. She manipulated my cervical area and in about an hour the headache was gone. Now each time I have one I call for an urgent appointment for this treatment. My headaches have greatly decreased and have never sent me to ER. If the injections are not as successful as we all hope they will be you may want to consider seeing a DO.

Best of luck to you. Please let us know the results of the injections. We will watch for your updates with interest. We learn from one another.
Take care, Tuck

I have scheduled the appointment for the 29th. If it helps with nothing but the headaches I will be happy. At this point, I am having migraines almost on a daily basis and I am willing to try anything to get them to stop. I am happy to at least know why they are happening more frequently and have a plan of attack to get some help with them.

I used to have daily headaches due to herniated disc in neck and bone spur. I had injections at the exiting nerve roots and it helped dramatically. My headaches all but went away for almost three years. I also had less neck pain and arm pain. I also have fusion at L4-L5-S1 and injections in that area never helped, it only helped my head and neck pain. Hopefully it will help you too.
Good luck and best wishes.                      Audrea

I had cervical epidural in Sept 07, and had no relief, but like RunningMom said they do help alot of people.

Goodluck,

Yes, I've had the steroid injections.  I had them before surgery and they made my pain worse, but they do help a lot of people.  I'm still in a lot of pain after surgery and I'm getting a steroid injection on 2 or 3 levels real soon.  I hope I have better results then last time.  I'm waiting for my insurance to okay it.

Before my surgery I was getting migraines almost everyday.  It was absolutely horrible.  I do agree with your doctor that the headaches are caused by your neck.  Steroid injections will not cure your bad discs, they only help with the pain.  Nothing is a guarantee.
