Migraines....

Does anyone have any suggestions for home remedies for migraine headaches? Since my son was born (2 years ago today!) I seem to be getting migraines much more frequently.

Hi,

Something else to keep in mind is that OTC meds like the Excedrin Migraine can caused rebound headaches when taken too often. Even taking the medicince a 2-3 times a week can cause the rebound headaches. One of the first things your doctor will have you do is to stop taking the OTC painkillers because it could be that they are to blame for the increase in your migraines.

Another thing to keep in mind is that some OTC painkillers... and I believe the Excedrin Migraine is one of them contain caffene, which can releive migraines... however caffene can also cause them.

In preparation for your appt. with your doctor you should keep a headache diary. Put the time of each migraine, any other symptoms you have with it (nausea, vomiting, aura, light sensitivity), anything you took to try and help with the migraine and if it worked, then also try and write down what you think may have triggered the migraine if you have an idea of that.

This will help you and your doctor see if there is a pattern of something causing your migraines... plus your doctor will most likely ask you to do this once you meet with him... this way you will be one step ahead.

Your doctor will also probably want you to stop taking all OTC painkillers so that rebound headaches can be ruled out.

Also, if you want to try the natural treatment talk to that about your doctor... your doctor should always be informed before you start any new treatments even if they are natural.

Good Luck!

Thank you all. I am on day 3 this week of having one. Today is really bad and so I am sitting at work trying to get something done but it's really hard to focus when one side of your head feels like it is being beaten with a hammer. I am going to go to GNC tonight for some vitamins to try until I get in to see my doctor. OTC meds are not working anymore at all.

When my migraines first start, I put a cold ice pack on the back of my neck..that sometimes either makes them go away or at least slows them down...you need to see your doctor...they will most likely do a ct scan to make sure nothing else is wrong... there are several good medications to take daily to keep migraines away...i take topomax...also imitrax is good to take at the begining of your migraine but must be prescribed by a doctor..this is not a narcotic...also the previous post are good ideas...take care., I feel your pain as I am a migraine suffer too..

Hi FeCielo:

Sandee has a great idea if your looking for a natural way to help your Migraines. Most GNC stores have very kknowlagable ppl that can help you pick out a good regiment for those nasty headaches. Vitamines are a very good source.

Often your hormones play a big roll in headaches, especially after giving birth. Hormones change and with change can bring unwanted side effects. There are also natural hormonal herbs that can hep with a host of problems. You might want to talk with your Doctor about hooking you up with a Homeopathic Specialist. Most citys have clinics of this nature.

Please take care and good luck with the migraines.

Not yet. I had always been able to take care of them with Excedrin Migraine but lately that doesn't seem to be helping. My next appointment is coming up though. I only see my doctor once every three months.

I have heard of B-2 helping a lot of people. Also there are a lot of foods and odors that trigger migraines. There are some herbs too that have been found effective. If you have a GNC store near you they will help you get the correct ones and the correct dosages.
Have you told your doctor about the migranes?
