More hopeful

I wanted to give an update to my post from Tuesday about my hip pain and steroid injection.

Things are going better than they were - I'm really, really hopefully that this injection has actually done something good.  The only possible drawback to it helping with the pain is the fact that my ortho doc did tell me that if it did help, then we knew for sure that the pain was coming from the hip joint itself and not some other area - so the fact that it is helping just reinforces his statement that I wil need hip replacement done at some point - buthopefully that won't be for quite a while :)

Another good thing that I've noticed with this hip injection is that it has not only helped my hip pain, but it has also helped my knee pain (both knees, not just the side that the injection was done on) - I'm guessing that is because the steroid has now gone through my entire system.  Believe, me, I'm not at all disappointed by this event - the more relief I can get from just one injection site, the better!

The orthopedic pain is definitely not 100% completely gone - and sitting for too long still definitely makes things a LOT worse, but I have noticed an improvement and continue to hope that things will only keep getting better - they told me that it usually takes this injection 48-72 hours to really take hold and this morning is just at the 48 hour mark, so I feel that there may be even more improvement over the next day or so.

Of course, I will always have my other chronic pain issues to deal with, but with the orthopedic pain issues being less severe right now, I think I will be able to deal with them a bit easier also.

The side effects I've been experiencing from the injection have also decreased - with the major exception of the insomnia - in the past two days I've had a total of about 3 1/2 hours of sleep.  I figure eventually I'm just gonna crash and sleep for hours!! (let's hope anyway!)  Nausea is gone, no more excessive sweating - headache and facial/chest flushing still present - I'm sure headache at this point is partially due to lack of sleep, but I always get headaches when having to be on steroids, so I pretty much expected that to happen.

I just wanted to pass along a bit of more encouraging news and thank you all for being so supportive.

Great news!  I'm so glad you got some benefit after all those side effects ganged up on you.  Since I'm the same boat, do you think we could work out a 2-for-1 discount with your surgeon when it's time for hip replacement surgery?!  :-D
