Need a physician to treat my IP/CP ASAP !!!

I am beyond angry.  My PCP has been treating my intractible/chronic pain (IP/CP) due to DDD, spinal stenosis, etc with 10 mg. of methadone q.i.d. (4 x a day), no breakthrough meds, and muscle relaxants.  Lyrica very nearly blinded me, so I can't take it, although it did work.  I am nonsurgical due to the extent of problems.  My physician has now sold his practice and is moving out of state.  I live in NW Arkansas, and in the span of time I saw my last physician, it is impossible to get any doctor to prescribed pain meds anywhere near me.   I have a physician and a pharmacist of 52 years ready to give me an excellent referral to any physician I can find.  Problem is if I can't find a doctor in 45 days, I need to move out of state where this prejudice is not present.  I had to leave a very promising nursing career and get on SSDI so I don't have a lot of money and am all alone.  If anybody can tell me where to go where I can get some QUALITY OF LIFE and afford to live, please, please write me.
Thank ya'll,
Kimber314

Dear Tuckamore,

Thank you for your kind and compassionate letter.   I am happy to inform you that I finally found a Pain Medicine/Anesthesiologist who was glad to take my case.  I have heard varying reports on her, but attribute some of the negative comments to people that she may have turned down due to some other concern, possibly drug seeking behavior.  Therefore, I am going into it with a positive attitude!  I have diagnoses out the wazoo and MRI's to back them up.   lol : )

I plan to follow your excellent site, and thank you for all the valuable information made easily available to our brothers and sisters in this.

Sincerely,

Kimber314, RN

Hi Kimber,

Welcome to MedHelp's Pain Management Forum. I am so sorry to hear about the issues you are facing. Unfortunately we CP sufferers face this or similar issues too often.

I honestly don't think there is a "good state" or a good location. I think much depends on the physician you find. I sincerely believe that there are good and bad PMPs in every state.

I've heard some ppl say that they cannot find a physician to treat their pain in my home state....yet I have not had any problems once I had a diagnosis. I read on the forum how XX state treats there CP patients horribly and will not RX this or that drug....the next week someone from the same state says just the opposite. So in my opinion the challenge is locating a physician that is educated in chronic pain and who is compassionate and concerned. That's the key.

I hope you will have success in locating a replacement for your departing physician. I know how very frightening it is to look for a new PMP. I've been there as have many other CP patients on this forum. Please keep in touch and let us know how your search is going. You are always welcome here.

My Best to You,
~Tuck
