I agree with the others' comments. There are ways to give you pain relief while also making sure you're mot misusing them. I would call every doctor you can find within whatever radius you feel comfortable traveling. I'm sorry this happened to you. Most doctors these days are afraid to prescribe narcotics as the DEA is breathinh down their necks. It makes it difficult for people with chronic pain to get adequate treatment.
I am brand new here and just posted comment of my own when I came across yours. My husband had something like that happen to him years ago after he fell 3 stories from building. He had to find a new doctor. He asked around for a caring doctor who was pain med friendly. It was a larger clinic and I think he went to whoever it was you file complaints/concerns through. Someone pointed him to a doctor who gave a hoot, and helped him out a lot. I think they may have had him come in for pill counts in beginning, but it was worth the pain relief. After 2 surgeries and part of his back fused, he didn't need them anymore. The doctor still remains his primary care provider. It is cruel when the medical community allows people to live in unnessecary pain. I think doctors are getting sued for creating addicts or some nonsense. At least I heard that somewhere. Don't know if it is true, but maybe some docs are afraid of getting into trouble. But still, most people use meds like they are suppose to and should not have to suffer because of the few chasing a high and misusing drugs. I know one person who will misuse Nyquil or anything. My point is, we can't pull ALL meds off shelves because of a few addicts who will just find something else to abuse.
Good luck finding new doctor. There are docs that listen and will help.
All people in pain have a right to effective pain medication.
Even people with addiction problems have a right to pain medication when they are in pain.
Invite your wife to your appointment, talk to your doctor, and work out a plan.
If this doctor will not treat you, find another.
However, if he suggests a non-narcotic pain medication, give it a try -- it may work.
But you are not required to suffer for the rest of your life because of mistakes made in the past.
i totally understand what you are saying and i feel very bad that you are having to go through this. this is the very reason i will NEVER go to my doctor for help getting off any medication.
it IS what people tell you is the best thing to do and that may be true if you are just abusing them and are in no pain, but when people have legit pain it should never be done.
have you sat down and explained this to the doctor??? i think i would fight like hell to get that note out of my medical records or have a note put in that you wanted to stop, but if pain resumed you would be fine taking them since you had no issues asking for help before.
it should be illegal to under medicate people who are in real pain.
Never mind I can't describe the situation properly. An talken is not helping at all so sorry I'm wasten everyone's time
I told my doc I was haven trouble stopping 10 mg tabs and having withdrawal symptoms. I ask him for help like I thought I was supposs to. He told me how to stop them but put a note in his files that I was addicted to opiates which I found out after my surgery. They left me in so much pain an only gave me small amount of tabs an cut me off. My new primary jus read that note after prescribed me tabs for two months an said she not comfortable given me those. I'm in so much pain it's so hard to work. I need relief in whatever form. I've tryed everything the doc s say but nothing works
I feel like I'm missing the story. Hoiw long were you seeing the doctor? What meds docyou take?
