Hi BuddyBuddy,
Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. The journey through chronic pain (CP) is challenging to say the least. We often encounter physicians that don't seem to get it as well as friends and family that understand CP even less.
Physicians come in all varieties just as non-physicians do. Trying to communicate with them can be frustrating. That said what I have learned is to be straight up honest with them. To the question, you seem you are having anxiety" I would have responded with just what I was feeling...just what was making me anxious. It's never a flaw to tell the PMP that he/she is making you anxious.
I've told a PMP that I was scared to death to talk to him. ....Afraid I would not be able to communicate my pain and the issues it brings into my life effectively ...and that because of that my care would be effected.
Sometimes we just don't "click" with a physician. No shame in that. It's the reason we don't all chose the same friends. If you are having that experience it may behove you to find another PMP.
Chronic pain can turn our lives upside down....all we can do it try to find a good PMP that will help us right it. We must also understand that CP does impact our lives. There are no magic pills or cures and I suspect you know that. We may never be able to do the things we once did...I know I cannot. Yes it's difficult for our children and/or grandchildren to accept and understand CP. It's up to us to educate them. Some we can, some will never understand.
I cannot suggest a specific physician for you...sorry. But if you are unable to communicate with your current PMP I encourage you to make an appt to see another. Try goggling PM Clinics or PMP. It should provide you with names and even patient ratings of those in your area.
Best of luck to you. I sincerely hope you will be able to resolve this issue. We are here to support you. If you want to vent or ask questions please feel free to do so. We'll do our best to respond. We understand the frustrations that CP often brings.
Take Care,
~Tuck
You haven't said what your diagnosis is. I have Fibro and Costo and the doctors in England live in the dark ages when it comes to this condition. My surgery has 5 doctors and only one understands Fibro. I just take Co-Dydramol and Co-Codamol for the pain. (4000mg per day). Rest when you can and sleep when your body tells you. I find that by doing this I can function for at least part of the day like a normal person. Plan everything in advance and don't over do it. After a while you'll be able to judge when or what makes you feel worst. Write a pain Diary to take to the doctor. Include sleep patterns, pain, exercise, food etc. Maybe you'll find a pattern like I did. We have to look after ourselves as most professionals doubt us. How can someone be in so much pain and still be smiling. Good luck and I'll be here if you need to rant somemore.
Welcome to the pain management forum...we are a group of chronic pain patients who provide support to eachother, and there are no doctors on the forum, so any advice given is from our own experiences. I believe that if you could provide some more information about your situation, you may get more responses. Like, what is your medical problem or injury? How long have you been dealing with it, and what medications or other therapies have been tried. Have you had any tests done? If you can give us your background, a little history about yourself, we may be able to answer some of your questions. It would also help to stick to one thread when posting, so that everyone can answer you in one place, and all information can be in one thread. I hope to hear more from you, and welcome to the forum:)
Is there anyone out there that read my last post.?
