Well for some people it can be a completely different sensation from a TENS to a SCS. If you are a candidate for the SCS, they do a trial first before implanting the permanent one. Some people do the trial and love it and others hate it. I hated TENS at first when they used it at PT, but now I've grown to like it. My doctor talked to me about the possibility of a SCS but I don't think it would be right for me, but it may be for you!

I thought they were talking about external. You gave me an idea to try what you were talking about. If it works good on the outside it may be wonderful on the inside thanks

A spinal cord stimulator is a surgically implanted device that is meant to interrupt the pain singles from your spinal cord to your brain. It is not the same thing as a TENS unit, but it is similar. TENS is an external device, while a spinal cord stimulator is internal.

"A spinal cord stimulator is a device used to exert pulsed electrical signals to the spinal cord to control chronic pain. Spinal cord stimulation (SCS), in the simplest form, consists of stimulating electrodes, implanted in the epidural space, an electrical pulse generator, implanted in the lower abdominal area or gluteal region, conducting wires connecting the electrodes to the generator, and the generator remote control. SCS has notable analgesic properties and, at the present, is used mostly in the treatment of failed back surgery syndrome, complex regional pain syndrome and refractory pain due to ischemia."

I have DDD so I  understand pain. I call them TENS unit and they are wonderful. You can get them free at most pain management places, I would highly recommend using one and they are not very expensive, some drs will give you one free
