New pain weeks after gallbladder removal and bile leak

I had my gallbladder removed three weeks ago, all appeared to go well but i had to be readmitted to hospital 48 hours later in extreme pain with what turned out to be a bile leak from an accessory bile duct. I was taken back into surgery and the duct was sealed. I also had a drain in for five days. I have been doing well ever since until yesterday when I started to get pain in my abdomen similar to that which I had immeditely after surgery, I have also felt as if parts of my abdomen feel as if they are burning a little, I am concerned is this normal?

Thanks

mellie made a good point about the holiday.  They tend to float right by me nowadays but they can present problems when you have an urgent situation - and do believe this is urgent.

SJG - since you're dealing with a surgeon, there should be another doctor on call if your own isn't available.  Hopefully you're on the phone right now.

I'll chime in and agree with everyone else:  best to call your doctor as soon as you can.  I haven't had any gallbladder problems yet, but anyone I know who did, sort of sailed through it.  Where you've had one complication, it's better to let him know what's going on.  It's possible he'll be able to reassure you over the phone, or you may have to go in, but either way, you need to speak with him.

And, even though it doesn't seem possible, this is a holiday weekend.  Better to try to find out now rather than have something pop up over the weekend where you may have to see or talk to a covering doctor.

Best of luck.  I hope you'll let us know what happens.

Yes!  Call your doctor and don't wait.  If you have any signs of fever at all, you could have an infection brewing in there - a distinct possibility with the bile leak.  Your symptoms are not normal and the sudden onset is very troubling.  Get on the phone now and try to post back here when you can.

Hi and welcome ! Namnam is totally correct in suggesting you call your Dr. I had my gallbladder taken out in 2000 .Luckily,I didn't have any problems .With you having the extra surgery due to the bile duct and having a drain tube you really need to make your Dr aware of what is going on with you .I hope everything goes well for you and that you get feeling better soon Take care Melissa

Hi SJ,

First I want to welcome you to the Pain Management Forum and let you know that we are glad that you found this Forum. I need to let you know that there are NO Doctors on here jus us CP (Chronic Pain) Patients that share what we encounter daily with each other.

I'm VERY sorry that you are having these pains again. I haven't had any Gallbladder problems (as yet) but I know that many on here have. Having said that I REALLY think that you need to call your Dr. immediately and let him/her know what is going on. I have known one person that had her Gallbladder removed and she didn't have any problems afterward. That DOESN'T mean that MANY people Don't have problems.

Please check and get back with us and let us know what your Dr. says....Sherry   :)
