Hello Steve,
I am glad that you found us on MedHelp's Pain Mangement Forum. Welcome.
I am a bit surprised by your physicians lack of concern. Does he/she know that you also are experiencing numbness and burning? What part of your thigh does this effect? The location can often provide more clues as to what could be going on.
Burning and numbness is generally attributed to nerve inflammation, entrapment or damage. As Mollyrae said this can be a spinal structure issue. It could be degenerative changes causing these symptoms hence your physicians referral to "normal wear and tear." However if your symptoms are to the point that you are having to choose if you attend or perform certain activities it is time to seek a diagnosis.
I suggest that you return to your physician and request the imaging that Mollyrae mentioned. If he/she is unwilling to help you than it is obvious to me that you either need to find another PCP or seek out the advice of a neurologist or similar specialist.
I hope you will keep in touch and let us know how you are doing. I will look forward to your updates.
Take Care,
Tuck
Hi Steve:
Welcome to the Pain Forum. Sometimes when we have back issues, it can effect your legs including thigh, calf or feet. You may feel them tingle, experience numbness or just plain hurt.
My suggestion is to make an appt. with your Doctor so that he can examine your back more thoroughly. You may have more going on with your back than you know. It might be a good idea to have some imaging done such as x-rays, MRI or CT Scan. This will give the Doctor a clear picture of what's going on.
In any case, I hope that you get to the bottom of things. Please take care and good luck.
Mollyrae
