OT: Wedding Hysteria

FINALLY!  My niece's wedding is tomorrow afternoon and I can't wait until it's over!  My niece is very low key and not stressing one bit over details.  She's jut ready to get married and start her life with her husband, whom we all adore and thoroughly approve.  Couldn't have done better if we'd chosen a spouse for her. LOL!

BUT - my sister?!  She's driving everyone insane.  Her anal-retentiveness is on full-blown display.  I'm on the "decorating committee" and will be out-of-pocket most of the day.  On top of that, my MIL and DH's cousin are coming in this afternoon to stay with us.  MIL is 90, stone deaf and refuses to wear hearing aids so we have to shout into her ear and she still doesn't hear half of it.  She's also bringing her new "yappit" dog along.  This should be interesting since every single dog she's ever owned ends up hugely obese, spoiled rotten and aggressive.  The birds will be shrieking because they'll have to be locked up for the weekend, and I can't wait to see how our two dogs react to the yappit and general mayhem.  LOL!

Cousin is a lot of fun - thank GOD! - and I always look forward to spending time with her.  She has the gift of being able to communicate easily with MIL so we use her as an interpreter of sorts.

God save me from bridal showers, weddings and baby showers.  This particular wedding has mushroomed to over 250 guests, which is ridiculous in my book.  That's thanks to my sister taking charge of the guest list.  Who's wedding IS this anyway?  Can you tell I'm dreading today and tomorrow?!

Guess I can't put it off any longer.  Catch y'all later.  I hope I survive it without a major pain spike.  :-\

I can relate to the sister.  Even for a small family dinner, my sister gets so stressed it's not worth her hosting anything.  All those colorful relatives, though, are going to make for great entertainment!

LOL.  I know you're into geneology, Jaybay.  Perhaps I ought to get on the ball with my geneology because I think we're related through the crazies.
Sounds like you absolutely have your hands full with that bunch.  I hope you and everyone else remain in-tact for this wedding.
Hopefully it will all go well and you'll get to have some fun.

Jaybay:  You go have some fun.  Dance at your niece's wedding.  And avoid your sister.  My sister did the same when her daughter got married.  She'll get over it.  Just keep smiling at MIL and take PLENTY of pain medication and anxiety meds!!!

You go have fun girl!

Whew!  I've got a couple hours to chill after the decorating massacree.  The reception venue is an original 1880's saloon in the larger upstairs area, and NO air conditioning until an hour before the reception tomorrow.  It's 100 degrees today and for the foreseeable future.   My lone bottle of water wasn't near enough to stave off dehydration.  LOL!  Everyone was completely drenched in sweat within 10 minutes.  I think they do this on purpose to get everyone to get down to work and git 'er done.

As is typical of these things, nobody had a clue where to start or what to do, so Aunt JayBay put on her el jefe hat and started bossing everyone around.  Have any of you ever noticed that most people just want to be told what to do?  I'm happy to take orders, but if there's a leadership vacuum I usually end up filling it.  My sister's job was to wring her hands with worry and anally retent everything as it was finished.  The bride and groom were just happy to see it all finally DONE.

The reception venue is a perfect fit for the Tex/ Mex theme.  My niece is a total Texas girl and her fiance is of Mexican ancestry.  I suggested talavera pottery centerpieces and extra decorations as the "Mex" part, and they look fantastic.  Made for some great bridal party gifts too.  The maid of honor collects pig figurines, and she now has a huge talavera pig pot to take home.

As expected, MIL and cuzzy will be late.  Happens every time.  Departure is at least 3 hours later than planned.  Oh well, that's one less meal I need to worry about!  MIL got all confused about the date and called cuzzy yesterday saying, "Where are you?  Aren't we going to Houston today?"  Uh, no.  That's tomorrow.  "Why?"  And it degenerated from there.  I don't envy Cuzzy the 3.5 hour drive with a deaf, demented, 90 year old woman.  Even worse, MIL refuses to bathe when she visits despite the handicap-equipped bathroom we how have.  Hot as it is, that is going to be one smelly car by the time they return on Monday.  :-O

Yes, this wedding has the potential to produce some family fireworks.  My half brother from Kansas City and his entire nutty family will all be in attendance.  His step-sister is a former crack ho who has lately found religion and her daughter is an active crack ho with an infant. The step-sister married an illegal Mexican and they moved to Mexico when the law got too hot for both of them in the States.  Well, that and blowing through her father's money, that topic being a separate book in and of itself.  Whoo hooo!

The best family wedding story I have comes from the 1980's when my cousin got married to a woman with a huge extended family with multiple step-relatives.  Grandma & Grandpa had been divorced for years and Grandma shows up wearing a micro-mini dress covered in blue sequins. Both proceeded to inhale the contents of the champagne fountain whilst sniping at each other in passing and a late-night argument ensued.  Grandpa took a swing at Grandma and was ejected from the party.  He was later discovered at 2:00-something in the morning passed out at the side of the house necessitating a 911 call.  Turned out he had a mild heart attack.

Grandma disappeared for the night with someone she picked up at the reception and remained incommunicado for the rest of the weekend.  Add in all the petty little arguments amongst various estranged relatives thrown together for the event, one black eye and a bloody nose and the video tape needed only the "Deliverance" soundtrack to make it an Oscar-worthy event.

I'm exhausted already from the anticipation!  :-O

Sounds like one of those familly events that makes for the stuff of hilarious movies.  I hope your pain doesn't spike, either.  That's the last thing you need.  I hope you are able to avoid the annoying ones as much as possible and make good use of your cousin.
Let us know how it goes!  I do love weddings, but yours sounds like a sitcom waiting to unfold, LOL.
Hang in there!
