Hello Suba,

Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. I am glad you found us and took the time to tell us about your father's unfortunate medical issues.

We are always welcome here and I will be happy to give you my personal opinion. However  I think you may get more responses in a other forums such as this one: http://www.medhelp.org/forums/Heart-Disease/show/72  ;
OR this one: http://www.medhelp.org/forums/Stroke/show/62.
I encourage you to copy and paste your post to both forums.

From first hand experience heart disease is a huge insult to one's system, especially our senior citizens....although your father is not considered "elderly" by any means. My mother had a CABG (open heart/by-pass surgery) two years ago at the age of 74. It effected her memory and cognitive abilities. Her cardiovascular surgeon told us it would take her body/system a full year to recover. Before he could even begin to recover your father experienced a CVA  (cardiovascular accident) or stroke. This was another huge insult to his system. It is not uncommon for post surgical Cardiac or CVA patients to exhibit the symptoms/problems your father is experiencing.

I am sorry that I cannot tell you how long he will require the medications he is currently being prescribed, nor can I guess how long it will be before he can travel. I would assume it will depend on how stability, strength and general health. This is certainly a question only his treating physician can answer with any certainty.

You may want to write down your questions and have your dad ask them of his physician. Sometimes, with your dad's permission the physician will even discuss these issues with you.  Possibly your dad could set up a phone meeting between you and his physician.

I am glad to hear that your dad is doing better. He is fortunate to have your love and concern. My dad passed on early this summer and I still miss him immensely! So hug your dad and tell him how much you can with every opportunity.

Peace,
~Tuck
