Pain Management clinic

Has anyone been to a pain management clinic? My doctor doesn't want me on narcotics long term (and neither do I!) so he's referred me to pain management. I have no idea what to expect.

I've taken (without help) gabapentin, meloxicam, ibuprofen, tramadol, lortab (5, 7.5, & 10) and can't take excedrin and tylenol has never worked. I've also had 8 weeks of physical therapy and the chiropractor (not simultaneously) with no relief.

You've gotten some good advice.  Pain clinics don't just hand out pills.  There are procedures such as injections, massage, etc that you can try.

As stated above, do be specific about your pain.  That's how they figure out which treatment plan to go with.

Good luck and please keep us posted on how you're doing.

Pain management does offer many options to chronic pain paitents. When you see the doctor he/she will offer you what options they have available and you will go from there. If you choose one option and then find it is not right for you then you can always go back and talk to the doctor and try something else. Most of us has been through many of the options they offer to find the one that is right for us.
Just make sure you tell the doctor everything as far your pain, what makes it worse/better and how your dealing with it now. Also the doctor will ask you what your goals and what you expect from pain management, so keep that in mind so you will have your answer ready. if your goals are unrealistic they will tell you and you may need to adjust your expectations.
Let us know how it goes:)
