Pain Management with non narcotic

I have chronic kidney stones and renal colic in my left kidney, which in its self is full of scar tissue and tech non functioning. I have been on and off pain medication for the last two years. Between several surgeries for my kidney, lungs and my tubes tied for medical reasons. In the time span of three months I had been on Narco 5/500 1-2 tablets every four to six hours as needed. Just this past week I have started healing and trying to get back to normal after 4 surgeries  in just 6 weeks.  I came off my meds because I didn't need them anymore and went through a horrible withdraw. I didn't even know that my body had gotten so use to have the medication. I had no clue what was going on and swore I was having a heart attack. I also have horrible hypertension because of my renal issues.  Well now the pain is coming back on my left flank area but I am so scared to ask my doctor for anything for it. I have tried OTC meds but most of them contain things that can more harm then good. Has anyone had any success with treating chronic pain without a narcotic ? I am really open to any suggestions. Or ideas ? I do have a nephorologist who I see for my kidneys and a urologist for the stones . They are working together to also look at alternative medicine but I just thought I could bring ideas to them. thank you in advance.

Pregabalin (Lyrica) is similar to gabapentin (Neurontin) and may be more effective, but usually kidney stones require opiates -- they can be quite painful.

best wishes.

Thank you both . I have used the Torodol and it doesn't seem to touch the pain. I will look into gabapentins.. I am thankful that I have a very understanding doctor. And is willing to help me try different things when I ask.

I   was taking up to 6 5/325 Norcos per day for sever back pain,an switched to gabapentin 600 mg 2-3 times per day as needed .I experienced no withdrawal effects and it kept my worst pain away, Now I take 1 or 2    gabapentins per day  and most days are tolerable. I do wish I still had some vicodin for bad days , as my back pain is related to my activities any given day. My goal is to be at least 50 % as active as I was before my back pain started , but I can't seem to communicate this with my GP without sounding like a 60 yr old junkie . The pain contract doesntallow for good or bad days. Or for pain related to more active days compared to being ahouse bound couch potato. I hope gabapentin is a viable option for you.
Stay strong !

My husband uses Torodol for kidney pain it seems to work pretty good. If you have to go back on narcotic pain relievers again, just ask about a more graceful taper
