Pain in back and leg

I'm having pain that runs from back, buttocks and down the right outside of leg all the way to my foot. I thought it may be sciatica, but no pain in back of leg. Worst part of pain is stabbing pains in outside of calf. Any help appreciated...haven't seen Dr yet.se

I haven't heard of that possibility before but I am not aware of all of the things that can cause sciatica.  You could try some google searches.  Search for maybe "causes of sciatica" and see what pops up.  I highly encourage you to talk with your doctor about your symptoms.  Make sure you write down your questions and bring them to your appointment.  Rate your questions from most important to least important and ask in that order as many times the appointment is too short to answer every question you may have.  You could also try calling your doctor and ask your question(s) that way or schedule another appointment all together, but I believe either way; it is important to get your questions answered.  I am sorry to hear of the pain you are experiencing and I hope you get answers soon and treatment shortly thereafter.  Please keep us updated.  Take care.

Thanks for info femmy29. I'm going rhru some female issues with enlarged uterus and rhick lining. After I wrote this, thought I may ask Dr if this pain could be caused by that.  Have you heard it could maybe?  I was so nervous didn't think to ask many questions.

I agree with msnova that it indeed sounds like sciatica.  Sciatica doesn't have to run down the back of the leg to be deemed sciatica.  The portion of the leg that the pain shoots down can be dependant upon which disc is herniated and impinging the nerve roots.  I experience pain down the sides and the back of my legs and it is caused by nerve impingements on the L5 and S1 nerve roots.  L5 nerve impingement typically causes pain that runs down the sides of the legs and crosses over to the top from the knee down and S1 nerve impingement typically causes pain that runs down the back of the legs.

The sciatica you are experiencing could possibly not be caused by nerve impingement and instead be due to SI joint dysfunction or something else.  It is best to see a doctor for some diagnostic testing to determine the true root cause.
