Pain in my chest and abdomen

I am 16 years old female and for as long as I can possibly remember, I have had a slight pain in my chest that would come every once in a great while. As the years went by, they have been more frequent (now I am at the point of it being 5-70 times a day). The last couple of months I have been keeping track of how often and where this occurs. It is now also in my abdomen and chest. Sometimes they can be very painful and others not as much. It feels like my insides are being pinched. I have almost cried many times from the pain and about 2 to 3 times a month it makes it hard to breathe. I have done a lot of research and that hasn't helped me much. I am asking you because my parents aren't much help and I don't want to have them spend money on me if it is something that will be fine without a doctor appointment.

Aargh.

Here's what they're thinking when they say that:

"This is going to cost us money, we don't have a lot of money to spend. Maybe if we ignore it, she will ignore it, too, and it will all go away and we'll all be happy."

Well, you know and I know that the only thing that goes away if you ignore them is teeth. (Do you get it? That's a good thing to say throughout your life, it's pretty clever, I heard it on the radio -- you know, if you ignore your teeth, you'll get cavities and they will fall out, at least that's the explanation of that joke).

If your parents won't help you at ALL, here is what I would do. Now, please understand I can't tell people what to do, whether you're an adult or not yet an adult, I can't tell you to do stuff. So, instead, I have to type here what *I* would do, if I was in your shoes, as follows:
If I had some money saved up, I'd take myself f to an "Urgent Care Clinic?" It can run about a hundred bucks. If I have insurance, I'd bring my insurance card... and just show up!

But, just remember, they could get real, real mad at you, and you and i and nobody else wants that. So here might be a better idea: do you have a friend that will help you? A friend's MOM or DAD that can take you to a doctor? Or maybe you have a friend who's mom or dad or uncle or whatever IS a doctor?

I would go get checked out. If your parents will just "yell" at you and ground you, maybe it would be worth it. If they do other bad stuff (like hit), then you should be really careful, maybe get a friend minister teacher friend's mom, etc., to help!

Please be careful, and always do the right thing.

I know it has been awhile, but I finally told my dad last night and he did exactly what I was expecting. I can't take myself, and all he said was, ¨You haven't died yet, so I'm sure you're fine.¨ And then he told me I was complaining too much about pain. I know you can't do anything about it, I just thought I would let you know.

I never thought that dads would to feel like that. I am not able to ask him today because I am not with him. The next time I see him is on the 13th. But maybe since that is such a long wait, I will just tell my dad (my step-dad (I call him my dad)) because maybe I just haven't been explaining myself enough and not stern enough.

I wish I knew what it was... I guess that's why I want you to see a doctor.
I'll leave you with one last thought before I go...

It's about "dads" (and, I guess, men in general...), Dads (and men) like to 'FIX' things and "make things better." So, if you go to your Dad with a problem (like your medical condition), I believe he will really like it, and want to help. I am going to guess he is going to say "come on jump in the car we're going to the doctor" before you even finish your sentence. And, it will make your Dad happy that he can help. So even if you think it is awkward, trust me, he will appreciate that you asked! Ask him tomorrow!

Okay, I will try to tell my father the next time I see him (I don't live with him or see him much, so it would be a little weird/awkward to tell him). Thank you for your help and showing that you care (or at least it seems that way). And I liked the joke and I think I will use that sometime. If you know of anyone that might know what this is, please tell me. Or if you know what it is, I would REALLY appreciate it.

The thing is, I have told my parents many MANY times but every time, they would always just say, ¨What do you want me to do about it.¨ And they would leave it at that.

Please go to a doctor now.
If you're worried how much it is going to cost, then think of it this way:
If you ignore it, and it gets worse, it is going to COST MUCH MORE, and, also, everyone's gonna be mad at you and tell you "Why didn't you tell us sooner!"

I'll bet you've heard people say that to you before "Why didn't you tell me/us sooner!?"

So, now you can say, "Rememer a while back you said that I shouldn't put off telling you stuff.... so here's what's going on: I have a pain....."

Also, if nobody is sympathetic, then look in the phonebook (or google it on your phone) for "Shriners Hospital," and then go there and ask them if they can help you. They have this thing where they like to help younger people.

And, also (one last thing, I promise :-)... call around to some "Urgent Care" places... they are a LOT cheaper than a hospital Emergency Room! In my town, you can go and get seen for around a hundred bucks. Ya, that's a chunk o' change, but it is a LOT cheaper than thousands at an emergency room.

Good luck! and get checked out, like NOWWWWW
