Why am I getting this excruciating pain under my right rib cage in front. Drs. seems that they can't find anything wrong with me, they have done all the test but nothing showing? What could it be?

I'm not sure but have they ruled out a possible type of hernia?

Hello Forrest,

Welcome to MedHelp's Pain Management Forum. You didn't explain your symptoms is detail. Is this constant pain? Does anything make it worse or better? Is it related to food intake or activities?

Often the search for a diagnosis, especially one that causes Chronic Pain can be long and frustrating! We can relate and my heart goes out to you!

One of the problems can be that a simple test that should have revealed the problem is falsely negative, for one reason or another. When this occurs the Physician (for good reason) moves on to search for other possibilities. It may behoove you to have some tests repeated or to have a similar test that may prove positive.

Obviously the tests to be repeated would be the ones that test for causes that can most explain your symptoms. An example would be a test to determine if one has Gallbladder Dysfunction. Usually they will do the least expensive, least invasive tests to get a "clue" to the problem. These tests include, labs for blood's amylase or lipase levels, a complete blood count (CBC) or an ultrasound or x-ray. If those are negative Gallbladder Disease is usually discounted. Even a CT may be negative. Tests that are more reliable in detection are a HIDA Scan or an Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). However these are usually not preformed unless a "clue" is found.

I am not saying that your problems stem from Gallbladder Dysfunction. I was just using that as an example. However with right sided pain in the rib area Gallbladder Dysfunction should be considered.

What I do know is you should not stop searching for a diagnosis. Only you know your body well and know when something is not right. You are your own best Health Care Advocate. Be assertive and insist on answers. You may want to seek a second opinion. Physicians or Clinics associated with a large teaching facility are usually on the cutting edge of medicine, have good diagnostic skills and have seen much more then the average provider. They are more apt to think outside the box, so don't give up.

I hope you will let us know how you are doing and what you discover. I'll watch for your updates with interest.

Best of Luck to You,
~Tuck
