Peripheral Neuropathy

Prescribed  100 MG of Lyrica twice a day and Elavil 25 mg at night.  Dr. said can take Elavil during the day for pain..Can't function.. What is another drug besides Elavil that will help with pain and not cause terrible side efforts?

Used to take high dose of gabapentin and no longer working and decided to try Lyrica. Dr.said if could get used to taking the amitripline during the day it could help and it does but can't function. Now back to just taking it at night and have to suffer all day as the lyrica isn't doing it for me Just hoping someone has a suggestion for daytime relief. Thanks for helping.

Ask the doctor if he thinks neurontin alone can help you. I'm thinking there's another AD that might be helpful but I'm not certain so I hesitate to mention it. Your doctor probably knows or you can do a search.

Elavil has often been used for chronic pain although it's become an outdated treatment modality. NEURONTIN and gabapentin are the same thing. Lyrica is a similar drug (pregabalin) used for neuropathy and is a seizure med as well.

Hotleo: Give the doctor's recommendation a try and not just one time. Then discuss other options if the side effects don't settle down.  Are these meds helping you manage your pain at all?

This Lyrica and Elavil is prescribed or peripheral neuropathy bet the side effect makes me confused.  Dr. said I could take the Elavil during the day for pain but can't work, drive or concentrate.  Anyone know of another antidepressant that helps with the nerve pain that won't cause the side effects that can be taken during the day?

neurotin (sp?)  and gabasomething may be better.  i am sure people will come along and help me with the spelling of those

elavil is amitryptaline, one of the oldest anti depressants out there.  it is the only one i can take,  anyway i cannot imagine that being considered a pain medication.  i know that it is often prescribed along with stronger meds.
the side effects are too numerous to count.  the worst being weight gain, sexual problems, etc.
