Please help...

by infantrywifey, Oct 12, 2009 10:19PM
For a quick back story...I'm 36 and have been suffering with migraines for about 23 years.  Migraines seem to plague the women in my family.  There is also a history of MS and cardiovascular problems.

My question is this:  For the last probably 6 months or so, I've had this ache that runs from my left hip to my left ankle.  It started out as, what I assumed was RLS.  Then it graduated to waking up with this pain and now it is constant.  I cannot sit "indian style" for more than a few seconds without sharp pain in both my left hip (the joint itself) and my left knee.  If I cross my legs while sitting, my left foot becomes numb within a minute or so.  I've been ignoring it because my husband is deployed and we have 2 children (probably a stupid thing to do, but I don't have anyone to help).

What could this be?  I've been to my PCM and they're sending me this week for a MRI.  My PCM isn't saying what it could be.  This has be a bit concerned.  Please, just give an honest opinion.

Thanks -
A Proud Army Wife

Hello and Welcome to the Pain Mangement Forum.

Hip pain can come from many conditions. One of the most common is bursitis called trochanteric bursitis  The hip bursae is the largest in the body. The pain can be debilitating. That would be my first and best guess.

I've had it several times and left untreated it can cause sleepless nights. Does it hurt to touch or lay on the hip? Mine also traveled to my ankle when it was severe. Now I know the early symptoms and I get it treated.

Others should post with their opinions. I hope you will let us know how you are doing. I will be interested to hear the results of your MRI, if you are comfortable sharing with us.

Best of luck and take care,
Tuck

I'll post the results of the MRI once I know what they are!

Nothing hurts to the touch, just an ache that is constant.

As I'm sure you know x-rays are only a good tool to show bone structure. The MRI will tell you much more.

I'll watch for your update.
