I have to agree with the signs pointing to addiction. There's no well he could have accidentally chewed the pills or that much of them. I've never heard of people chewing them before. I know that the capsules are regularly abused by splitting them and snorting the contents, or adding the contents to fluids to drink. My ex suggested I do it on quite a few occasions when I was still being prescribed 3mg Hydro-morphone SR. I never did, but found out that he did it constantly with my meds after I discovered 114 - 3mg capsules missing & 67 - 2 mg quick release hydro-morphs. I didn't know f his addiction until then & even then he denied it. He finally came clean more then 2 years later. Seeing me suffer in agony didn't matter, hearing me scream in pain fell on deaf ears & of course my dr wouldn't prescribe it until I was due so I had to suffer. It took it happening 4 or more times & then she switched me to Fentanyl. No matter where I hid those pills he would find them. It's so bad that my oldest is on Ritalin & I had to spend over $100 on a keypad safe to lock her pills in cuz he started stealing them. The T3s I was prescribed after Christmas by my OB for severe migraines are gone thanks to me falling asleep before him 1 night that he was here..... when confronted he did the phony tears & the " I'm worthless & sorry".. same crap he always said & then would promise it would never happen again. At least that time he didn't make a huge scene when I told him to get the hell out before I had him arrested & made it so his lying *** never saw his kids again. He had hidden them until 1 night I had to leave the kids with him so I could be seen @ the hospital due to complications in this pregnancy... only reason I threatened he wouldn't see the kids again was cuz he took them WHILE being 100% responsible for the kids.
Gotta love how addiction can alter someone. I know addicts don't see how their actions hurt the family around them & in many MANY cases they honestly don't care. So many lies :'-(
Since the guy was awake and alert, my take is that he's an addict and this wasn't his first time to do this - he just got found out. The fact that he chewed them also points to addiction. This was no accident. If he didn't already have a strong tolerance to opiates, he would not have been awake.
Melissa,
We know you meant well. I don't think there is a cruel person on this or the Substance Abuse Forum. We all try our best.
Peace,
~Tuck
I understand where you are coming from but I hope you understand what I meant as well. The fact that it was posted on more then 1 forum doesn't necessarily mean it's a legit post. I understand her fear as that would be a terrifying experience but would hope that IF she got the repsonse that she needed or IF something happened there would be an update to let the people know who she is apparently so actively seeking advice from.
There are Trolls on EVERY site that like to cause havoc & I've seen several in the PM forum as well as a few of the others. Usually it's someone who is very bored & just posts what they think will cause the most replies in the shortest period with the most effect.
I sincerely hope this is not the case here, but a response would help. I've talked to a pharmacist today about this post & she was curious so she looked into it for me. After doing some research she called me back & explained that due to the medication it is it's almost a guarantee to be fatal as they are slow release & he apparently chewed them. I was then told if it's someone I know to get them into physc help IMMEDIATELY.
Guess we have differing views & HOPEFULLY this person posts an update
Melissa
I totally understand where you are coming from.
Hi Nene,
If you took the time to post...I certainly hope you'll take the time to update our concerned community...and other communities.
I won't add anything as I think it has all been said and then some...but please let us know how your friend is doing.
Blessings,
~Tuck
That's true that we DO get some that are false. BUT we HAVE to assume that they aren't as we NEVER know for sure. IF we treated one as false and we were wrong and they TRULY needed help we would NEVER forgive ourselves for not being there to help them.
This posted hasn't said anything to make us think that it's not true so therefore we accept that it IS a REAL post.
MANY times we will get a person on here that only posts the question and doesn't return because they get the answer that they need and aren't a regular member and don't feel comfortable posting an answer about their personal problem.
I REALLY think that is what has happened in this case as she posted on more than one Forum. I feel that she was VERY frightened and she may not have been there when all of this took place. Therefore, she's just telling us that he did this hours ago. I'm sure that's probable what he told her when she got there. If she was there she wouldn't have allowed him to take the meds, {That is ONLY my opinion. } :)
You, ALSO, have to consider the fact that the poster might have been frightened. Remember, we don't know ANYTHING about their backgrounds. There's NO WAY of knowing what is going on with the posters. :{
Normally, you can tell IMMEDIATELY when there is something wrong with a post and even then we will answer at first and then IF they prove to be false posters then the mods will pull the posts.
I hope that helps to let you know the way that we TRY to treat our posters on the PM Forum. :) In other words we ALWAYS give them the benefit of the doubt. That's one of the things that makes our MedHelp Forums one of the Best in the World. :)
Hope this explains it a little better for you all............Sherry :)
Hi, over on the Hep C forum we get what we call trolls. They come in, wreak havoc, start trouble, get caught because uaually it is someone who has been banned. I have wondered how many of the "off" posts on here might be somewhat the same scenario.
Sadly the 1st & 2nd times I read this something didn't seem right to me. I dunno what or why BUT if this guy had REALLY taken this why wait 9 hours without doing more? Why not post an update? Why post on here to start with instead of calling 911 & getting him help?
Every day there are posts that get added on here by individuals that are false for whatever reason. Sadly it happens & it takes time away from the ones that are real. I can't say 100% that this is bogus, but something strikes me as off & it's not often I'm wrong when I get a gut feeling.
I sincerely hope if this happened that he is ok & there is an update soon. To the poster of this I"m sorry if I've insulted you by thinking it's false, but something seems weird.
Melissa
Unfortunately, I'm guessing that she PROBABLY won't update anymore. The reason I say this is because she posted the same thing on the Addiction Abuse Forum and she hasn't posted an update on there either and she had several good responses on there as she did on here.
I'm HOPING that she will, but I doubt it since he was alert and responsive. Let's just HOPE that she WILL. :)................Mama Sherry
Mr- how is your friend? Did you call 911? Is everything OK?
Inga
this was posted 6 hours ago... any update on him?
Melissa
Kadian is morphine sulfate. The 100 mg and 200mg capsules should NOT be chewed as these are extended relief and you can very easily OD on doing it this way as you are getting all of the morphine at once. I would watch him very closely even tho you said it was 9 hrs ago. Is he lethargic or dizzy? I hope and pray your friend isnt doing drugs like this on a regular basis. Let us know how he is doing~~~~sara
The highest dose Kadian comes in is 100mg. It is an extended release medication, which can be taken up to twice a day. Technically if he is opiate tolerant he should be OK. Is he having respiratory depression? That is the most dangerous sign of overdose. If he is having trouble breathing than he should seek medical help. At the very least he should not go to sleep until he is sure that he is coming down from the drug.
Why are you waiting?! he ingested this over 9 hours so vomiting won't help. Get moving!
If the poison control Lady said that to you, then you should without hesitation cal 911. Let us know how it goes.
