Sciatic Nerve causing leg pain.

I have really bad pains from the nerve in my left leg whenever i have a period since as long as i remember. but it happens off my period too.and the past two days ive been bed ridden because my leg and lower back are in soo much discomfort to the point i cant breathe in because its hurting my back.i have it alot but its really got to the point where i cant cope anymore. i take Paramol for the pain but its stopped working the past few months and its ment ive spent days laying in bed crying in pain and i cant walk.when i told the doctor she said  it sounded like nerves and maybe it was just normal for me, that as long as i could cope it was fine and left it at that.but i cant cope. can anyone suggest anything that may help? should i go back and see another doctor.

i need some help!! i have been in severe pain for over 2 years now, ive been to every doctor you can think of.. but no answers still!! we do know that i have endometriosis, andeomyosis, polycystic ovaries, and fluid that gets trapped inside me from my period. but my pain is absolutely unbearable but no doctor will listen or help. my lower back on the right side hurts sooo bad, it wraps around my side thro my hip to my belly, and down my buttox and my right leg kills me. sometimes it gets so bad that i can barely walk. so altogether my pain is in on the right side of my lower back , buttox, hip, lower abdomen, and leg. could this be sciatic endometriosis or what?! someone help please!! i cant take the pain anymore, its controlling and ruining my life!!

Sorry to hear that.He basically gave you a pain reliever in a class of drugs called Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory drugs. They do help with menstrual pain but not too well for nerve pain if at all. I really will not hurt to give it a try and see if it helps. If it does not don't give up. Call the doctor back and tell them you are still in sever pain if that happens. If they do not help find a new doctor that will. Make sure you explain the leg pain and let that be the main reason you go to the doctor. Make sure they look into the reason you are having so much leg pain. Request some tests like an MRI to look into where the nerve is to actually see what is going on there. That would be a good start. Be your own advocate. I can't tell people that enough. So many people just accept what the doctors say instead of asking some serious questions to the doctor yourself. I hope you can do that. I hope you well.

Have you had any imaging studies like an MRI of your sciatic nerve? There is a condition with Endometreosis where it can attack the Sciatic nerve and the pain would  be worse around the time of your period. Not very common but can happen. Don't stop until you get an answer. Usually with a new doctors comes fresh eyes so that can help sometimes.

Hello Ellie,

Welcome to MedHelp's Pain Management Forum. I am so very sorry to hear about your sciatica. I have it also and can relate to the extreme pain you are experiencing.

I have never heard of sciatica being "normal" for anyone...but I have to disagree with your physician. I encourage you to seek out another opinion.

Sciatica is not a diagnosis....it is a symptoms that is indicative of a structural problem. It can be caused from a dysfunctional SI Joint, a spinal problem or several others conditions. Getting to the source of the problem is key in treatment. A good physician should investigate your pain and find answers and solutions for you.

I hope you will be active in our community. Please let us know how you are doing.

Take Care,
~Tuck
