Alright so about a year ago I was t-boned by a semi truck going around 65 miles per hour. This left me with incredibly severe back pain. They have tried many pain medications but the only medication that has seemed to work is oxycontin. So now I am left to buy 2-3 80mg oxycontin tablets a day which is costing me around $150 which I do not have to money for but my pain is still so very excruciating that i have no other choice. So I was wondering what I can tell my doctor so that he will prescribe me oxycontin because I cant go through life livingAdvanced care directives in pain, having to buy pain meds off of the street. Thank you very much
We understand chronic pain in this Forum but we do not condone the illegal use of narcoticsDrug abuse. You cannot continue to obtain narcoticsDrug abuse illegally. It hurts our plight. I know you didn't come here to be lectured but please understand our position also.
I think I can safely say that all of us have had to go through the difficult process of struggling through the right channels to obtain pain relief legally. Many of us went years with severe debilitating pain without pain control. Much of that is due to the illegal diversion of narcotics that is so prevalent in our society. My sports car was hit head on by a loaded dump truck. Six months of hospitalization and 24 surgeries later I know pain. I went for almost ten years without being believed, labeled a drug seeker by some. Your behavior, no matter how much you feel it is justified, is a large part of the reason that I and others have had to jump through hoops to prove that we suffer from chronic pain, be taken seriously and find a diagnosis.
There are no magic words to say to your physician. You may need to see a Pain Management Physician (PMP). Ask for a referral if your Primary Care Physician (PCP) is refusing to treat your pain. If he refuses to do either than you may want to consider finding a new PCP. Be aware that you will be drug testing by the PMP and if narcotics are discovered they will in all probability refuse to take you as a patient. The journey through chronic pain and pain management is not an easy one.
Others will post with their suggestions. They may not be kind. I know that you feel you cannot do without your illegally gotten oxy's but you need to stop this practice. If caught, and you will be caught sooner or later, you will face a felony conviction which greatly lessen your chances of ever being treated for chronic pain. Don't do that to yourself, don't do it to us.
