Severe sudden calf pain

Last night, I was woken up by severe pain in my calf, easily the worst pain I've ever felt. I couldn't even move my leg, and my calf was unusually hard and painful to the touch. After forcing myself to move my leg, it mostly subsided, and I went back to sleep. When I woke up for good this morning and walked around a bit, I found there to still be traces of pain, but its mostly gone. Is this something serious to be worried about?

Hello and Welcome to the Pain Mangement Forum. There are no physicians on this Forum. We are Chronic Pain patients. So please keep that in mind.

Because you are so young I would tend to beleive that you experienced a muscle cramp. It's not unusual. A little tenderness the next day is normal. However if you calf is reddened, warm to touch or firm than you should seek medical treatment. In fact is you have any of the symptoms you should seek medical advice. If this repeats or continues you should also consult your PCP.

Best of luck to you. I hope this was a one time occurrence.

Peace,
~Tuck

Hi Pandroid:  It's probably just a muscle spasm.  Maybe you need a bit more potassium in you diet.  Do you like bananas?  Try eating one every day.  Those and Orange juice are fairly high in potassium.  If it keeps up, you may want to consult your doctor.
