Shy bladder

Last time I went to my pm Dr they requested that someone watch me pee I have very bad bladder problems and I have an extremely hard time peeing at the Dr I usually have to start taking azos standards a day before my visit every once in a while. I will have to borrow some urine to take, this time I knew I wasn't going to be able to pee so I got another person's urine.  When I got to my appointment they wanted me to pee in front of someone I threw a fit and started crying because I knew I would not be able to pee not to mention the little bottle in my underwear I finally submitted and somehow managed to get the other pee in the test container when it came back it tested for 2 narcotics that aren't prescribed to me then they wanted more money to pay for a lab test. I know it was wrong to do that but I wasn't expecting for it to come back dirty.  I have been going to this Dr for over 4yrs and have had very little problems with my urine and have been a good patient. They prescribed my meds as usual but I have a terrible feeling that I will be dismissed. Should I come clean about the urine not being mine and if I test clean on my next appointment do u think they will dismiss me. I really have bad bladder problems and have all my life especially in stressful situations I can't even go on a trip without my AZOs.

I'm so glad you posted again. We truly are not here to judge. We want to help.
I do agree that the clinics and pain specialists can be very harsh and they keep us in fear. That is not good for our pain and our stress levels.
The only thing I can think to do in your situation, if they must have a urine test, and they do, is to use a catheter. Your Dr knows your situation and the name of your condition so I don't see why he would have a problem letting you do this. They have the kind that people use all the time who have bladder problems. I know it sounds ridiculous and unfair, and it is. But you do need your medication and this seems like the only way to get a urine test. If you've never used one before the pain Dr or his nurse can show you how to use one. I can't believe I'm even writing this.To suggest that you use a catheter for a urine test. I hate the fact that we can no longer have a good patient- Dr relationship with our family Drs. So many people have been pushed in to seeing a pain specialist or going to a clinic and they are at their mercy.
Right now I'm being treated by my primary Dr for my pain. She knows I'm doing everything possible to find out why I'm having this pain. She also understands how afraid I am of pain clinics because of all the stories I've read. I know I have at least another 2 months, maybe 3, of her treating me while I'm going through test after test. I also know at some point I may have to start seeing a pain specialist or go to a clinic. I've actually tried to see several but they won't take me because I do not have a definite diagnosis yet. If it were not for my primary Dr I would be in so much pain that I would have no quality of life at all
Think about using a catheter. It may be the only way the will keep you as a patient and the only way they may be able to get a urine test from you.

I think all of u people are being very judgemental of me, there's a condition called fibromyalgia interstitial cystitis bladder pain which I did not know the name of until I did some research but a pain management doctor should have known about Co sidering. He does so many urine tests every day. This is the condition that I have ND he tried to tell the nurse about several times so I had to resort to looking on the Internet to find ways to get around the testing, I wonder how u would feel if it was u and no one acted like u were making up something just to get by on a urine test I've done nothing wrong my urine is clean but to get my prescription I have to provide a urine sample, which I am unable to do because of my Condition, so I'm stupid I lied so I could get my meds, but now I know really name of my condition I can at least defense my self.

Can you please tell us if you're being honest with us? We don't know who you are and there's no way we can ever find out what your true name is.
If you messed up and took more of your medication or another medication that is not on your list I would truly like to know.
I'm fairly new to chronic pain, it's been a year. I didn't know people could take another persons urine with them instead of using their own. It's something I would never even think about because I only take my medication as prescribed by my Dr.
We're not here to judge but to be supportive of one another so it's important to know the true facts.

Very well said Philnoir and as a fellow CP'er, I agree completely. At my last PM appt, my doctor told me he trusted me completely. The last thing anyone of us should be doing is something that reduces this tenous bond of trust with our PM doctors. It does affect us all.

This is a farce. You haven't told us the whole truth, and you tried to fool your doctor. I don't believe this has anything to do with giving a sample and neither will your doc, who's seen it all. This whole debacle smells like an attempt to coverup of whatever was in your urine.

If you ever get prescribed these medications again, you need to learn something from this experience.

Your controlled substance agreement stipulates that you have certain responsibilities if you are to continue to receive this treatment. You shirked those responsibilities and at the same time, tried to defraud your doctor.

By the way, the sample bottle has a small thermometer strip on the side. The office staff know immediately the temperature of the sample is too low for body temperature, and they know that you switched the sample.

You say that you can't live without your meds, yet you tampered with one of the few responsibilities that you have in order to get them.

You claim not to understand why you have to have a urine test -- well, every chronic pain patient in the nation also has to take this test. I've got a track record of over 20 years of compliance in taking my opioid medication, yet,I'm asked to give a sample every few months, at random. The urine test is not personal, it is protocol.

Frankly, all you had to understand is that if you wish to receive medication, you have to pass the test without cheating.

I'm very annoyed with you because you thought you were smarter than everyone else. Well, your feeble attempt to beat the system is an old trick in the opioid abuser's handbook. It labels you as an abuser.

All you achieved was to give your doctor one more reason to be suspicious of all chronic pain patients on opioids. You not only hurt yourself, you hurt us all In this desperate attempt to cover up your whatever behavior you're hiding.

Your selfish action confirmed the need for urine tests and gave chronic painers yet another black eye in the process.

I think its ridiculous that I must be treated like a criminal. This is the way they treat people who just got out of prison. I only need my pain meds filled. I experience horrible pain in my bladder when I am forced to go and only a drop or two comes out.  The Azos help but not always I quess that they could cath me to get the pee they wanted. I don't understand why they couldn't have done a saliva test. If I lose my pain meds I will just die. I appreciate your input. Thank you.

In my opinion, there's lots going on here -- quite a bit more than a urine test gone awry.

Not just being in pain, but all the responsibilities that go along with Pain Management, signing contracts, doctors, medications, urine tests, that can be an enormous load to bear, for anyone!

Here is a suggestion, just something to consider: I would suggest seeking the help of a mental health professional, in conjunction with 'coming clean' with your Pain Management Physician.

When something is not well with our teeth, we go to a dentist. When something is not well with our heart, we go to a heart specialist. (As human beings, we simply weren't built to run 'perfectly' all the time!) Just like when our teeth aren't well, our heart is not well, in the same way, when something is not quite well with our minds, our mental state, our behavior, it is appropriate to seek treatment -- and get well again.

I can only tell you what I would have done in this situation. Like you, I have a hard time going right in front of people too. You could have told the Dr to just leave the door open so they could hear you fill the cup. Well, it is kind of hard to hear a person filling those little cups. Anyway, if they know you have a problem going in front of someone I'm sure they would understand and give you more time in the bathroom.
Yes, I think it may be in your best interest to tell your Dr why you had a bad urine test, it was not you urine and you have a hard time going in front of people.
Yes, they do have the option to let you go if you signed a contract stating that nothing but what they have prescribed to you will show up in your urine.
If you opt not to tell them about using another persons urine you can ask to be retested right away.
I think it's sad that pain patients have to go through all of this. It seems like we have no control over our health and our pain treatments any more.
