I'm sorry to hear about your difficulties. I too, have put on 30 lbs from all these meds. They started me on neurontin and I felt like the bottomless pit. I was putting everything in sight in my mouth. I knew, this was not going to help my pain but only make it worse. I had also quit smoking 2 years ago and started gaining weight from that. I stopped the neurontin because of the weight gain. That is the first question I ask with every medication. Otherwise, it is like a dominoes effect. I take med, I gain weight, I get depressed, I hurt more. I had to stop the roller coaster. I have also tried Lyrica and Cymbalta. The Cymbalta made me sweat profusely. So, they took me off of that medication. I am now trying Savalla, starting today. So, I will see how this works. Good luck to you.
I've bee n on gabapentin for about a year and a half..I have rsd in both hands. It's helped me tremendously. I'm on a pretty high dose..800mgs - 3xday...2400 total dayy. I have experience weight gain with it too. approx 40 lbs. I don't like it anymore than you do. But without it..well, I don't want to imagine it. I tried lyica and didn't get the same relief. It also causes weight gain. Best wishes to you ..let us know how you make out...tresa
hi, i sympathize with your weight gain, I've had that too with a variety of meds and yes its very hard to take off when in too much discomfort to walk or exercise.
I 've been on gabapentin for years with increases along the way, for me the weight gain was slow and stopped at one point and didn't keep adding on, but than again everyones different to each med.
Other options you can talk to your doctor abt is another anti- seizure medication, there are many. but gabapentin and lyrica seemed to be the 2 most effective for nerve pain.
However years ago my mother had facial neuralgia and was successfully treated with Dilantin. so thats another possiblility for you...again have a good talk with your doctor abt other alternatives, good luck and let us know how you make out ok
