My Doctor recommended valerian root. I wanted something mild to help me sleep and this is what he told me to take. I was just reading about it and it s recommended to be taken with melatonin for full effect.
The high end of dose on melatonin is 100mg so you can play around with the dose until you get the right one for you. My dad who has taken it for years takes 5 3 mg tablets at night. He also adds the Valerian root when he cant sleep well enough on the melatonin.

I would definetly recommend asking your doctor if you can take more than one, but I can tell you what my doctor told me.  He said that 6mg might work for one person and 20mg for another.  He told me to take as much as I need to to sleep.  Hopefully your doctor will say that you can take 2 if the one is not working.
Have you been prescribed neurontin?  That will help you sleep as well.  It made me somewhat sleepy as I recall.
I hope that you can start your treatment soon, too!  What type of treatment will you be trying?
I hope you're able to rest and that the new treatment works for you.

I had my MRI today and should have the results in about 3 days.  I have tried melatonin 3 mg and sometimes its helps.  I am afraid to get on a script sleeping pill simply because I am worried I won't hear the kiddos if they need me.  The NP is going to set up another appt. as soon as she gets my results.  So do JadedSweetheart do you think it would be safe to take 2 melatonin when one isn't workinking?  I will be sure to talk to my dr about that also.  The muscle relaxers don't seem to help and I am anxious to try the naurtin(spellin?).  I am hopeful that the MRI comes back clear and I can start my treatment soon.  Thanks all!

I am so sorry your not getting any relief! When do you go back to the Doctor? I would try the melatonin it is safe but check with your Pharmacist to be sure. I have taken it before and it relaxes you too, it may help with the muscle spasms.
I know I have the hardest time sleeping, you may need to ask your Doctor about Elavil. It is commonly prescribed for Fybro and will help you sleep.
I hope your doing better soon:)
We are here for you.

Have you tried melatonin?  You can buy it at the local pharmacy or health food store and it really works.  My doctor told me to take as much as I need to (3mg per pill) to fall asleep.  I'm sure the dosing is different for everyone and depends on each individual.
I also have taken benadryl or tylenol "simply sleep".  to sleep.  I'm sure there are more things you could try as you're not pregnant and don't have to watch what you take.
I hope you find a way to sleep.
