Also I'm having this proceedure instead of having a stimulator put in,is this a normal pattern of treatment or is there something that my Dr isn't telling me ?????

Actually I have an herniated disk on my cervical and arthritis on my spine, not to count the scoliosis. I had been going to a Pain Management clinic for almost 2 months now and a month ago they gave me an epidural injection in between the two compromised disks on my cervical, right on the herniation. It was used cortisone, an anti-inflammatory steroid.Normally there are two ways of approaching it, one: if you had no breakfast they will give you anesthesia for the procedure, if you had breakfast they will apply local anesthesia on the area-mostly with an spray- and my procedure a month ago was the later one, didn't felt a thing even if the doctor was telling me what he was doing all the time, step by step, he told me that the liquid of the injection will feel like burning, but I didn't felt a thing. Tomorrow I'm going again for the second shot, the first one did not help me. Oh and the doctor what uses is an x-ray live cam that give him actual movement of the needle in your body through a monitor he watch while doing the procedure. I heard of some cases that feel great after a couple of hours of the shots, some that feel pain after the shot and then subsides an others, like me, where the first procedure doesn't do a thing.

Hi Mage,

Hawk did a good job responding to your question with lots of information. I have had steroid injections into my SI Joint but not into my spine.

The injection consists of a mixture of local anesthetic such as lidocaine or bupivacaine and the a steroid such as triamcinolone, Aristocort or methylprednisolone, Depo-medrol or Celestone-Soluspan. It is usually the treating physicians choice.

Be sure you research the procedure and be aware of all the possible side effects. Many ppl have these procedures without any side effects but some do experience them. I have heard rave reviews and I have heard others say they would never do it again. Make sure the treating physician has lots of experience in the procedure. That reduces the possibility of side effects. This is usually a treatment performed before a SCP is considered for implant.

Please let us know how your procedure goes. I will be looking forward to hearing the procedure was a success. Take care and please keep in touch. Tuck

HI, I had the injections but do not remember what steroid was used. You lay on a table mabey at your Dr's office and with a scanner type machine they put a very long needle in your back. They numb the painot of entry and even offer you other meds to make us feel better. I know that I had blown out 2 disks and had the injections 3 times which really did nothing for me due to my problem. With reguards to the SCS unit. Did you use a tens unit ? and did you have the SCS trial done? I know that I had to have both and both be positive for the SCS unit install. What problems do you have with your back? this would help in trying to see what they can do for your. I have seen many Dr's and had alot of things tried so the info would help me let you know what I had done and others that I know and what worked for the different problems.

Sorry to hear that you are in pain .. I know what your going through and I still am. Hope they can find something that can help you.
