Stillnox

My doctor has now put me on Stillnox tablets.  I have heard some pretty scary things about them in the press.  Has anyone had personal experiences with them they can share?
Regards Sue

An update to the story is I am still on Stillnox and up to now the only side affect is a general feeling of light headedness and a feeling of not being totally in control.  Mixed with my other medications it sometimes works, sometimes doesn't but I definitely am more muddled in my thinking and awareness which is hard to cope with. Plus I get the sweats, tremors & other withdrawal symtoms if I do not take it for a couple of nights so I guess it has definitely had an addictive reation.  My concentration level is VERY low. It takes me ages to form constructive sentances etc so I am TRYING to avoid it now.

Stillnox is readily on the market here in OZ with a doctor prescription. I have had no unusual side affects from it so my cautions have proven to be null and void.  But I do still keep in my mind the warnings I have heard and stick to my doctors instructions to the letter.  Some times I have even taken 2 and still not slept all night, but I am VERY reluctant to get out of bed till morning to give them a chance to wear off.  Or I make sure I tell my husband I've taken them and he keeps a watchful eye for unusual behaviour.
Thanks for your comments.

Its banned in Australia!! I was on it and its true, i was doing things in my sleep and had no idea what i was doing let alone remember doing them.Heath Ledger the actor that died mixed his medications and it killed him.I was taking the wrong meds and acting weird,I told my doc and he took me off them.So be careful some people even drove their cars, cooked meals all while they were sleeping and didnt know it.Ask your doc about these side affects,it was a very high percent of people that were affected. But that doesnt mean that it will affect you,but have someone keep an eye on you and see if there ae any changes.I wish you well.By the way australia is very strict about medications, more than the states.

Hello Suec,

Stillnox, trade name Ambien is used mostly for short term insomnia. I was given it while in the hospital and did not have any side effects. It was very effective. I think the major problems come from long term usage.

Others will post that may have more experience than I. I do not know anyone that has had Ambien on a long term bases. I'm sorry I don't have any more information for you.  Other members will post that hopefully will offer you more information.

Good luck and take care, Tuck

Hello Sue and welcome to Med Help.

I'm not sure what you have heard about the drug and as in all sleep aids, when taken as directed and prescribed by your Doc who knows your medical histroy, it should be safe.
I would guess that you know to only take at bed time.
Others will post as the day goes on so be patient and I'm sure that others will add their comments. Sorry that I could not be of more help. Take care,
Mollyrae
