Surgery VS Injections for cervical disk

My question is this; I was stopped at a red light when some guy thought the light was green and hit me going 35 miles, he totaled my pickup and pushed me into the van ahead of me. So double whiplash. So I thought.  Come to find out the mild disk bulge I had turned into a herniated Disk.  Now with this being paid for by the other drivers insurance, should I just have surgery and be done with it, or take my time and have the injections?  Anyone that has been through this that could give me feedback I'd be grateful!

welcome
I too have DDD but to the lower back...
I have only so far had injections(cortisone) to my hips....it helped for awhile.
Get lots of second opinions my doctor is very skilled in these injections and I didn't feel any more than compared to a mosquito bite!
He also told me that surgery should be the LAST resort.
He is a physiatrist, trained in rehab and injections and very skilled.
(works with an NHL team here in Canada)...make sure before you go with this that it is done by someone that has alot of experience or it can become worse and also very painful(but so can the surgery be)..sometimes these injuries can be corrected with rehab and pain meds in the interm.
good luck.

Hello Sandi and welcome to the Pain Forum.

Sorry this has happened. If the Surgery is recommended then it is my advise to go ahead and have the Surgery. I also had a Herniated Disc and had one injection...that was the last one I had or will ever have. It only aggravated the area and did nothing for the pain. The injection itself was very painful.

After the Surgery was over and I had time to heal, I felt like a new Woman. I have had to undergo 4 more Surgeries but not related to injury. I have DDD.

I feel that this really is the Doctors call and what is best for your health. Because I don't know you or your medical history, it is impossible to advise you on what your next move should be.

Listen to the Doctors and get a second opinion if necessary. Please take care and good luck with what ever your decision should be.

regards,
Mollyrae
