Taking pain meds on an airplane

by tristaann, Aug 26, 2009 09:52PM
Hi there! im sorry and this may be a silly question but i am on quite a few medications. Fentanyl, vicodin, hydrocortizone, zonigran, and lexapro. I will be traveling for a few days soon to see my Boyfreind graduate from Army Basic Training, and then again to move to where he is stationed. Can i bring these "controlled subtances" on the airplane? Will i need a note from my Dr. saying these meds are all mine? I cant have them confiscated, as im not trying to sell them or anything but even over a 3 day time ill need quite a few meds. Tahnks for your help.

Yes, I brought my prescriptions on my carry on.  Make sure you have them in your original bottles with all your information just in case they personally go through your bag.  When I go on vacation, I only bring what I need and leave the rest at home.

Hi:

Of course you can bring them. Although I bring them all. You never know what might happen when traveling. Think of 911 when all the planes were grounded. Not saying that it would happen but anything is possible these days.

Like Runningmom mentioned, make sure that they are in their original containers and in a carry-on bag. Do not put them in your luggage that will be stored. There is theft all the time in those bags. Not to mention getting lost in flight like ending up in another part of the country.

Be at ease and enjoy your trip. I will be doing just that very soon. Please take care.

Hello Fellow Wisconsinite,

The above responses are correct. You may take all your meds in their original containers in your carry on bag. I always carry my PCP's business card with me, so if there may be any questions they (I) have the information close at hand.

And Mollyrae's suggestion in my opinion is right on. You never know what is going to happen, take all your meds. It's better to be prepared than find yourself in an emergency situation without your medications.

Have a great trip and don't worry. You must be so excited to see your boyfriend and proud of him also. Enjoy your time together.

Best of luck to you and him also,
Tuck
