Hi Boxedore,
I'm afraid Grreatful is correct. I agree with everything Grreatful has said.
I am certainly not judging you. Chronic Pain has driven many a patient to make difficult and sometimes unwise choices. Medical Marijuana is not legal in most states. I think (hope) in time that the laws will change but for now it's illegal. I've read and heard that even in states with Medical Marijuana it is tightly regulated. It requires a prescription just as our opiates require one. Even in states were it is legal - taking it without an RX would still put you in violation of a Pain Contract.
Unfortunately there is no leeway these days in Pain Management. Check the Pain Contract you signed. It's my guess it states that any substance found in your system that is not prescribed by the PMP will subject you to immediate dismissal.
We face difficult choices in controlling our chronic pain. Your PMP has trusted you to follow the contract. When we violate it the consequences can be and often are devastating - especially in future pain management.
If your pain is not managed well - discuss that fact with your PMP. An adjustment of medications - or maybe a treatment could bring you better pain management.
One can always chose to leave pain management and try other options on their own - like relocating to CO. I don't believe that's a wise choice and it's my guess you don't either. I am concerned for all chronic pain patients, including you. I hope you'll reconsider self-medication.
Please keep in touch and let us know how you are doing. I wish you the best of luck!
Take Care,
~Tuck
I'm afraid you can. My doctor said if anything other than what was prescribed to me was in my system she would not hesitate to cut off my contract. Even the amount you are prescribed has to accurate.
I went to a Paliatative care doctor for many years that prescribed a drug that works the way that pot does (pot pill) on pain but with no high.
But anyway back to your question, sorry to say if you are caught with it in you system be prepared to get cut off. It's not that they are being mean, it's that they are being monitored more. And if they let it go their license could be on the line.
After reading all this, I'm not trying to be judgemental but you should determine what's more important/helps more with your pain. Because the risks are high. And once you get red flagged it will be very hard to get on another pain management team. I really hope everything works out for you.
