Tramodol

I have been taking Tramadol  for about two years. I do not take more than I should, actually  less, usually 200 mg, 250mg max a day. Works great. Allows me to work and keep up my household. Other than the addiction part what would be the long term problem with this? I am over 60 and have a lot of arthritis and back pain.

Hi Mickey,

Welcome to the Pain Management Forum.  I am glad you found us and took the time to post.

Tramadol isn't even considered an "official" narcotic (opiate)It's action is opiate-like. Someday it may be a scheduled narcotic but for now, and to my knowledge it's not a scheduled narcotic.

Tramadol at 200 mg per day is not too much.... please don't beat yourself up over this dosage. In time you may even require a stronger medication. You deserve to live your life as comfortably as possible. None of us should have to live with uncontrolled pain.

Please don't consider yourself "addicted." There is a huge difference between addiction and dependency. There are several articles on this and here's a link to one that I have in my journals:
http://www.medhelp.org/user_journals/show/138942/Addiction-VS-Dependency?personal_page_id=14686

I hope you'll take the time to review the article.

Please keep in touch. We're here whenever you'd like to ask a question or just chat. We'll look forward to hearing from you.

Take Care,
~Tuck

You don't take a lot, you are in pain, and it improves your quality of life.  You are 60 years old and have arthritis and back pain.  This small amount of mild pain medicine helps you to be a functioning part of society, and to keep your home.  You shouldn't even think twice about it.  I think you are entitled to some pain relief.  Carry on!
