UPDATE: Epidural went fine yesterday

Yet another update to those who are helping...
I had the injections yesterday and so far no issues other then Im a bit sore and a little loopy because I cant seem to remember anything because of the Niravam they gave me, to keep me calm during the procedure. Afterward the  Doc gave me Relafen 500 mg with 2 refills. take 1 every 12 hours. Then told me he wouldn't be giving me any more Vicodin or other such meds because they have long term side effect, huh????? I go back in Feb. I know I am hoping this injection works and ill never need meds again, does anyone know anything about this drug? Ive never heard of it before.
In a way Ill be glad to be done with Pain management,  Ive never felt so micro managed and like Im going to "get in trouble" before. No one should ever feel that nervous when seeking help for a pain problem. Maybe it is just me. I do want help and Im just tired of being scrutinized and just want to be comfortable when talking to the docs and nurses. I am so tired and just want to cry... thanks again

Thank you for your kindness and encouraging words.. I have a follow up app. on Feb. 9
to report any change or whatever. As of yet Im not sure if I can really tell a difference, but I have been much more active, as the work around here has piled up!  I don't know if my pcp can give me meds I hadn't really asked her. She just told me to go there to PMP for the Injections...
Really I think Its the same, I just hope I will be able to tell once the injection has time to get where it needs and do its magic. I dont like taking medications but pain isn't something I handle well with 2 young boys aged 3 and 10. We are an active family. Seem like Im siting out more and more. EHH
Now about this Relafen, its terrible.. makes my stomach hurt even when i take it with food. but im sure when I go back they are going to check my urine for it so I have to take it. Again thanks for the replys

Hi Anige,

I am glad the injections have been effective for you so far. I hope they continue to control your pain.

Relafen is a NSAID. It works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body. It is not a narcotic. It can cause serious gastrointestinal problems. Be sure you take it as directed. It should not be taken on an empty stomach.

I am sorry you have felt so scrutenized. I know that in some states you have no choice but to see a PMP for pain medications. In my state it is the PCP that prescribes pain medications. I don't know if I could handle the scrutiny of a PM Clinic. I do not handle being treated with suspicion very well.

I am sorry this has been your experience. If these injections do not succeed in eliminating the majority of your pain what is the PMP plan of action? Does this mean that he will refuse to prescribe any further pain medications regardless of the final outcome? These are questions I would submit to my PMP.

Good luck to you. Please keep in touch and let us know how you are doing. I will look forward to your updates. Tuck
