I've always wondered why those reams of paper they give us each month with our Rx at the pharmacy, don't include a single page filled with the  photo of a safe, followed by a caption that reads: KEEP YOUR MEDICATIONS IN HERE!

Find a good fire safe (available at any office supply store), bolt it to your basement floor, and keep the majority of your monthly prescriptions in there.

They're also useful for important data, papers, and the occasional sawbuck you might stuff away for a rainy day.

How sad that some of us can not have certain people we care about in to our homes. It's obvious this girl cares nothing about you or she would have never stole from you. She had to know you were going to suffer without your medication. And look what she's doing to her own children. She has to be reported and you have to try and make things right with your Dr. The children also need a better person to take care of them. Like many of the other members on this forum I also keep my meds in a locked safe so this doesn't happen. It's sad that we have to do this but there are some people we have to protect ourselves from.

I agree with the above suggestions of reporting the theft. Obviously that should have been done immediately. My concern is the time factor. Will law enforcement think that you are reporting a theft to cover yourself? However I think you have to take that chance.

As said before. Please keep let us update.

Best of Luck,

I'm so sorry this happened. I ended up in a similar situation with someone staying in our home taking my medication, so my husband went out and bought a combination safe (the person had even been able to get into a keyed fire box) where I now keep all my medication.

Short of taking the advice already given - report the theft to the police and explain the situation to your doctor - there's not much more you can do. It's a sad situation. Please let us know what happened.

I work with a physician who prescribes opiates routinely and he states that if he were so notified he would have to notify the drug enforcement administration as to the allegation and would no longer prescribe medications. It is rather unfortunate, but I believe this woman has structured the situation as to leave you no choice in making a complaint to the authorities.

If you decided to report her the police were the appropriate people to go to. At this point I believe you have no other option than going to the police and make a formal complaint. And to the drug enforcement administration.  And to child protective services. This "daughter" has no ethics and is out to destroy you.  You have no idea what other lie this person will make up about you. If I were the doctor, and you stated you had not gone to the police I probably wouldn't believe you. Forget about "proof" or doing a search for her criminal records.

Hi and Welcome to MedHelp's Pain Management Forum. I'm sorry to hear about your situation.

Sadly it's going to be your word against hers. If she has been arrested for drugs or theft these records are considered public. You may want to try to get a copy of her record to take with you. I'm not certain if that will be helpful but it can't hurt. .

Do you have a long and good relationship with your PMP? Will you be believed? I truly hope so.  If not it's totally up to your PMPs policy in these matters.

I hope everyone that reads these will see the issues/problems that can arise when we don't report stolen or suspected stolen opiates. We simply cannot afford to be the "good guy", We must follow the pain contracts that we signed. I would suspect that had to reported the meds missing and stated your suspicions you would at least be in a better position.

Keep your opiates locked and hidden. I do. I take out or carry enough with me for the day. If by chance someone should steal my bottle I'm out just a few and can adjust ... but I'd report even that.

Most contracts state that we are responsible to keep them safe so they cannot be stole. Mine does. They certainly won't be replaced.

I wish I had a better answer. Sadly this could be bad. Again all will depend on your PMPs policy and your relationship with him/her. I wish you well. Please let us know the outcome. You may be fortunate and be believed.

Maybe one of our members can offer better suggestions or has some experience in this situation.

I'll look forward to hearing from you. Hang in dear and don't give up hope. I wish you the very best.

Take Care,
~Tuck
