What do I say to a new dr when my current dr. doesn't believe me?

I have been on hydrocodone 3 times daily for years. I have NEVER  abused this in anyway at all. I am faithful of takiing this everyday and never have had it increased though my osteo-arthuritis is worse.  My doctor has taken two in office urine test at my every 3 month visit and it comes back neg. The test were done 6 months apart.  I am now being called a lier and I am so inosent and am takiing it. she accused me of selling it because if I was taking it it would show in the urine. I have a high metabolism and medicine goes through my system  fast.  I am more than upset to be accused of something that I am doing perfectly by the book and prescription she has been prescribing. Now she is taking it away and will not prescribe pain med for me.  She also took my prescription of Ibruprophen away.  She said "if you don't like my decision on this find another doctor". Now I am really worried to get another doctor and don't really know how to begin.  What if the next doctor does not only believe I am pain and ageny daily all day and that I need this prescription and in the amount that has been helping for so long.  Can anyone please help me.  My doctor is soooooo WRONG and because she is in charge and a doctor she thinks she would not make a mistake.  I am m more than devistated to be called a liar and a drug seller.  OMG

i am good trixy!  of course i always am going to say the positive because i know my subconscious is listening and will obey!  Thanks for asking though as i have had a tough time after sharing personal stuff and being beat up over it.  that's all i am going to say as i have to be awfully careful what i say anymore.........

remember.....doctors are god!  and they have no problem with making you suffer by with-holding your relief.....and if they do not like you for some reason you are left with little recourse.. not easy to find another one!

I'm sorry this happened to you, I agree the one's sent to a lab are considered more reliable, but again, humans are involved and everyone makes mistakes. The sample could have even been contaminated. There is another person on this board that had this problem so he keeps some of those "home" test kits in his car so that he can retest right there if the doctor refuses to allow you to retest. Its not a bad idea really. Its pretty bad that chronic pain patients get treated like this when an addict can just say "hey, I'm addicted and they can at least get into a methadone clinic". Also, my test was sent to a lab, not one of those in-house deals. Supposedly the ones they send away are thought to be more reliable, but they are not always accurate either. It ***** that we have to be treated like criminals just to get some pain relief and even then we can't ever feel safe b/c even when you do everything by the book you can still be cut off from care.

I just had a false negative at the pain clinic and was dismissed. It's complete BS and there is no appeal process, at least for me. It's a crime that doctors can do this because these tests are NOT 100% accurate. As my pain doctor said, his tests are "the best of the best, of the best tests out there". Nevertheless it still failed and I'm the one who has to pay for it.

Luckily, tramadol works very well for me. Give that a shot. It's not a narcotic so your family doctor will likely be willing to prescribe it. Good luck and I feel your pain, in more ways than one.

Is this a pain management doctor or your regular family doctor? The way she said "if you don't like it you can find another doctor" is telling me that she doesn't want to be your doctor anymore. She sounds like a B***H. So I guess my suggestion would be to start looking for a new doctor. Try to get a copy of your records that this doctor has as well as any and all of your imaging and test results and go from there.

Also, there is quite a bit of information online about false negative drug screens that usually happen with the instant read kind of tests, the ones they send out to the labs are generally correct. If you do manage to get an appointment with her, print out as much information you can about this and bring it with you.

Also, you may want to get an appointment with a gastro doctor because there are tests that can determine your metabolism and those kinds of things and that might help your case as well.

It is worse for sure. I cannot believe she is doing this to me.  I have called and left a msg and the nurse called me back. I explained I have done research and many people have this happen but are taking their meds correctly. I said It was so unfair to make me suffer in more pain because the test was wrong.  I said more than once the dr is wrong fo wrong.  The nurse said she would tell the dr and also say I wanted to talk to her. Well that was Monday and it is Friday and I have heard nothing.  I am only 54 and have been fighting my condition for years. I was never without pain daily but the hydrocodone sure makes a difference.  Now I am worried if I see another dr. he or she will see the notes from my current dr and do nothing for pain as well.  I have never been in such a devistaed/flustrated state. thank you for careing.
