Hi there,
I have tried many pain meds (chronic pain from brain surgery 3.5 year ago), Opana ER being one of them.  I did NOT have a good experience: it chronically made me feel so slow and groggy, that I thought I as going to fall over.  I think I fell asleep out of the blue often times.  Like many pain meds there is always the lovely constipation issue, but that passes.  But I felt horrible, being so groggy and feeling half drugged up: reminded me of when I had to be on really high doses of seizure medications.  In short, I don't recommemd opana.  Fentanyl is fairly good, but, like all the other pain meds I've tried (hydrocodone, percocet, oxycontin, opana, avinza, and others) none are riproaring successes.  I've decided to try a new pain center, perhaps Stanford.  (I currently go to RUSH pain center in Chicago)  I'm sick of being in pain.  Let me know if you know of any good pain center to try, anywhere in the country.  I'm going to lose my sanity soon enough if things don't turn around soon!  Good luck to you as well

Hey there.  Well my pain has increased pretty dramatically.  I was moved up a tiny bit on the Oxycodone for the next three months and then she is wanting me on Opana ER.  BUT if my insurance is much higher there is no way I can do it so that might be a factor here as well.  It makes me nervous about it that nobody here seems to be on it or know much about it either.

Is there a long acting a could suggest that might be similar.  And if this is a morphine type medication it will not work for me.  I have been perscribed morphine before and it NEVER worked.  I took the whole bottle back to my doctors office and told them they could have it!

How are you Tuck?  How is your pain level, life etc.  I have missed the board so much

My insurance does not cover Opana yet.  I have not tried it either.  Good luck and I hope it works well for you. :)

Hi,

It's good to hear from you again.

Opana ER is oxymorphone hydrochloride in an extended-release tablet. I have not been prescribed the med. I am sorry that I cannot help you with personal information.

I have heard through the years on MH that this is an effective narcotic. It's actions are very similar to other opiates in it's class.

I hope members that have had this med or are currently being prescribed it will respond to your post.

How are you doing? How's your pain?

Peace,
~Tuck
