What to do

I was on Celebrex 200 mg daily, my pain clinic dr also wants to add Cymbalta 30 mg for 7 days then 60 mg.  My husband and I want to have children but are not activly trying at this point, it happens when it happens.  I just want pain to stop or at least elevate more.  SHould I take both together.  My OB said it should be ok, My neuro dr said give it a try but pain clinic dr said don't.  What should I do?  I have taken it for 3 days now.  I also have PCOS.

So do I need to have my Cymbalta adjusted since I take 200 mg daily of Celebrex?  I am not on the 60 mg of Cymbalta.  I decided to take it for 2 reasons- 1 want my pain to go away and why not at least try it and 2 maybe it will relieve some of my depression (for which I am seeing a counselor) and I guess 3 since my husband doesn't seem to want to really try as much as in the past to have children what can it hurt I thought.

THank you for your comments.

Hi!
In a way, your pain clinic doctor is right. Celebrex inhibits CYP450 2D6 enzyme required to metabolize Cymbalta . Hence you will need to take lower dose of Cymbalta  as the drug concentrations are expected to remain high due to slow metabolism. If the dose of Cymbalta  is not adjusted well it can result in serious side effects such as orthostatic hypertension or hypertension or tremors or ataxia etc.
However, your other doctors are right too. There is no drug interaction between them, and so even if you become pregnant, there is not going to be any additional harm due to drug interaction. The safety profile of Cymbalta is not known for the unborn baby, hence it needs be taken with precaution in pregnancy. On the other hand Celebrex should be avoided during the last 3 months of pregnancy. Take care!
