Which ACDF technique best?

I have herniated cervical discs at level C5-6 and C6-7 impinging on nerve root. My injuries were originated from a whiplash sustained in a car accident 12 years ago. I also have lower back injuries from a fell 4 years before that. For the past 16 years till present I have been having regular massage therapy, physiotherapy and tried many acupunctures treatments, tunai (Chinese traditional massage and chiropractics) etc. I also learnt Pilates, Alexandra technique, TaiChi etc.. I have tried many treatments and pain managements methods including neural myotomy on my lower back.

However my cervical injuries seem to have got worst over the years. My radiculopathy conditions are getting worst despite my regular massage and physiotherapy. My Neurosurgeons have commented that pain management clinic may help to relief some of my pain and discomfort but not necessary help with the impinged nerve which has affected my right hand functions. Thus ACDF was suggested ASAP.

I was introduced to 3 different techniques, 1.P.E.E.K with own bone graft; 2. Trabecular metal (TM) with tricalcium phosphate; 3. Artificial disc replacement.

I knew that PEEK and auto bone graft is the golden technique for these condition but I am hesitating because of my lower back conditions. And artificial disk replacement history is still too young to shown all its benefits or any long term side effects (?).

Does trabecular metal affect future MRI reporting? Which will be the best method for me?

Most people I know including my self like warm weather.
Not that the metal is affected but your bones ache!
My aches and pains are worse in cold weather.

Thanks for the advice. I am still very hesitating to accept a surgery appointment. But I am also very worry that my untreated conditions may cause permanent nerve damage if I do not go ahead with the surgery as some members of the forum warned should do it earlier.

At the moment I am sort of coping with the pain (70% of the day) but the nerve pinching always affect my right hand functions and daily life in many way. How quickly the condition may deteriorate to permanent nerve damage? I may regret for not listening to 2 neurosurgeons advice if I ‘lost’ my right hand later on.  Hmmm… should I go or should I wait? The risks just scare me a lot!

Does the metal implant affect your comfort in cold winter or hot summer?

I would be more concerned about giving in to
Surgery.
Take a long look around these forums and listen
to all the stories.
