Will this be a problem

by toolmaker, Jul 03, 2009 07:17PM
Well it seems its time again to go to the pharmacy for refills.I have had the same prescriptions now for over 2 years. My patches are not due to be filled until the 4th (tomorrow). They close today at 6:30 pm and will reopen monday morning. The pharmiscist  will not fill this script 5 1/2 hrs early because she could loose her license. Was also told it was my own fault for holding the prescriptions instead of letting the drug store hold them (they would have seen the problem with the date and got it changed). The last time I let them hold a prescription it got misplaced and has never been found. The past few months the refill amounts have been wrong not only with my pm but my gp as well.I'm sorry I went off on a rant but my question is- Am I going to have a problem getting my Fentanyl filled by a new pharmacy tomorrow?By changing pharmacys will i violate my contract with pm? I thank all of you for being a part of this forum.

It depends on a few things. One did your contract say you HAD to use the same pharmacy and if so what are the stipulations on an emergency change of pharmacies. I do not want you to get kicked out of your PM over this. Usually I would advise your asking your doc if it is okay to use a different pharmacy this one time. Can you call your PM's  answering service and ask them to have your doc okay it?
The other thing is no one that does not know you is going to fill this script w/o speaking to the doctor. I assume he is not in his office.
You should have called the doctors office Thursday and taken care of this because at this point I do not think your going to have much luck.
The pharmacist would not lose her license for filling this because according to the DEA you can have these scripts filled three days early.
Maybe you could try the hospitial pharmacy where you doctor is affiliated.
I am sorry your in such a bad position and I hope it works out:)

Could you give me a link to the dea info ?I would like to read this to her boss.I go out  of my way to avoid confrontation but I have had enough.I failed to mention that this is the same drug store that held my zanaflex and restoril for a week , telling me that  the scripts had never been called in while they sat there waiting to be picked up.It's been a bad week thanks for being there.

I took my prescription to a chain drug store Walgreens.I didnt have a problem getting it filled.I think that may have been because of my bcbs card.I will go to my shop this afternoon and fax a statement to my pm and tell them about the problems I have been having.I had been using the mom & pop drug store for 22 yrs but its over now.

Hi Toolmaker,

I'm glad you have taken some steps to avoid this problem in the future. Mom and Pop shops should understand that they need to provide customer service above and beyond expectations due to the competitive nature of this economy.

I'm sorry that you have encountered these problems. Hopefully this will not repeat.

Good luck,
Tuck

I have also been told that you cannot get your meds until the day you are supposed to run out, that was at CVS, and they told me it was the law. I don't normally use them but my mom took my script there after I had surgery. At my usual drug store they say that is not true, you can get it filled when your current script is used up by 80% and it would not be considered an early fill. I called the ins. company and they said the same thing. They will pay for it when 80% has been used. That is usually around 5 days early. Some drug stores are such hard-a**** they like to make you wait until the day you need it because they thing everyone is an addict whose on narcotics, so they are not going to take any chances. If it's not controlled they will give it to you a week early as long as the ins. pays or you can pay cash.

I was looking for the information I got off the DEA site that says it is completely legal to have your meds filled three days early.
When I find it again I will post it. Also Walgreen's goes by this policy as it is the law. At least this is what the Walgreen's here said.
Anytime you have a new script filled and the pharmacy does not know you they will want to call the doctor and verify the presciption. Not all do but most do as this keeps the schemers at bay.
